Hi just wanted to know peoples experience of using raspberry leaf tea. I am 36 weeks and would like to try it as my first baby was preterm so ever got a chance to use it.

Does it make your contractions more intense/painful? does it make your labour more effective?

Thanks

Hi I took raspberry leaf tablet form with my 2nd child and I found my labour was quicker (1hour) and my contractions was more managable. I read it does help with the contractions but not sure how true. I will be using it again this pregnancy :).

I don't think anyone can answer this question.
I've used it in 3 pregnancies and I have no idea if my deliveries would've been any differenct if I hadn't drank it.
DC1 13 hour labour, G&A
DC2 4 hour labour, no pain relief
DC3 22 hour labour, G&A
all straigtht forward, text book vaginal births, without complication.

I took the tablets from 31 weeks and I drank the tea nearer my due date I had a 24 hour labour that ended in forceps and a episiotomy so feel they didnt work for me but I may give them another bash this time every little helps. so up to you to be honest x

im a mum to 6 an drank 6 cups of raspberry tea for 3 days before going into labour with all off them (im sure it start things off) and them went on to have less then a hour labours with them all .
anythings worth a try . :)

I took it in my last pregnancy.

I was induced at 42+1 and for all it's supposed effectiveness I spent 17 hours on a syntocinon drip and finished off with a PPH and retained placenta due to an atonic uterus (too knackered to contract any more)

I don't think taking it will do you any harm, however don't expect it to do anything other than hydrate you - you certainly aren't guaranteed an nice efficient and quick labour.

Labours are supposed to be quicker with subsequent children anyway, so if this labour is quicker, it's probably not down to the RLT :)

From what week is it safe to drink the tea?

MrsHuxtable · 09/01/2012 14:36

I've been drinking it for a few weeks now. Info I was given was:

32-34 weeks: 1 cup a day
34-36 weeks: 2 cups a day
from 36 weeks: up to 4 cups a day

It tastes very nice. Didn't expect that!

MrsHuxtable · 09/01/2012 14:37

Oh, and NOT safe to drink in early pregnancy is what the box says!

Tigresswoods · 09/01/2012 14:42

10am bought 1st ever packet of RLT from H&B
1pm following a Fishfinger sandwich made a pot of RLT & drank a couple of cups
1:30 contractions & show
3pm following day, have DS.

I was 2 days off my due date mind, it could have been coincidence.

I took 20 raspberry leaf tablets when I was five day overdue (it was very hot and I was very fed up), my waters went that afternoon and he was born after a 3 hour labour.
