Im now 17 weeks pregnant, thankfully it finally kind of sunk it a week ago that its actually happening. Up until that point id totally been in denial and looked bored if my mum dared to mention that's shed seen a pram.

That was until yesterday when i decided i need to start buying stuff, my fave hobby shopping and now i have a true excuse, and haven't a clue what to get, i actually cried yesterday cos i didnt know what a carry cot was...this is how useless i am !!
the thing ive looked at i got told not to be stupid cos the child wouldnt need them for years yet, admittedly i was looking at a high chair and a safety gate!!

we dont even have a room ready and i mean totally not ready, not even plastered, weve only just finished having the downstairs renovated so the only upstairs room thats done is our bedroom, can you tell im freaking out.

i have bought some baby gro's and a pack of big knickers for me so im obviously half way there!!! pls help

Don't panic! You've still got AGES! I'm 19 weeks with my first and haven't even started thinking about buying stuff yet. If you're feeling really clueless then start with buying yourself a good pregnancy/baby book that will have lots of info about equipment you need. I'm pretty clueless too, but my understanding is that new borns really don't need too much, so best to wait until their here and discover what you need rather than waste a lot of money on stuff you won't use. being on MN you will also pick up a lot just by watching various threads. Relax and enjoy! Grin

When I was preganant with ds I couldnt wait to shop for things for him, however I ended up with far too many clothes and bottles etc I didnt even use bottles as i breastfed. So this time around Ive learnt my lesson and am just getting basics 10 white vests, 10 babygrows, steriliser (useful for weaning if breastfeeding) dont bother with moses basket we had one and ds never even went in it Blush just go straight for cot bed, a couple of bottles, pram etc . You can shop once baby is born and believe me you will, I spent a fortune on cot bedding then when ds was born got another one just ridiculous you become obsessed with how cute eveything is.
Dont panic, relax and just get essentials you have plenty of time left.

I'm 29 weeks and was panicking like mad yesterday thinking I have nothing for the baby or me. But I used the list on the back of the mothercare booklet and ticking things off helped me realise I have more than i think.

vix You could do what I did and kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I went to John Lewis and had an appointment with a nursery advisor (pt 1, actual useful advice form someone independent). They looked at everythign you wanted them to from travel through teddies. Took my everso hyper Mum and MIL with me, they loved it (especially the complimentary cake and coffee) and I got to have 2 people who'd done if before go "noo, you don't need that" and a lovely lady to walk us through the latest advice etc. Mum/MIL really enjoyed it and I got a nice list of stuff to search and buy of ebay where sensible play with for weeks. Then some lovely men fought through the snow to deliver it all to me! Grin
You're not obliged to buy off them. And you can play with the list online as you wish. It can funciton like a wedding list too, so if people want to buy your stuff, you can give them the list number etc.
