Pregnant or not...or are HPT reliable after about 18 weeks?

Ok, first of all, I'm most likely not pregnant, the chances are very, very slim, but I'm wondering if I am after all.
Have 21 month DS and a lovely DH. We'd like to TTC2 later this year after I've finished my thesis. Started pill (cerazette) in September because of heavy period pains, but missed one nearly every week in Sept and Oct. Started a new job at the same time, loads of late work nights, very tired, and DH and I weren't very active because of it (BIG understatement :)) and would use condoms as backup. However, we did it once without condom. Didn't think about it anymore.

Fast forward to this month. Had a lot more heartburn than usual, stomach felt "bigger" and thought a couple of times "Hmm, if I didn't know any better, I'd think I was pregnant", but knew that was more or less impossible, at least very improbable. Then, last night, right before falling asleep, I felt flutters in my stomach, loads of them, and they've continued here and there during the day. It might very well be gass, but then again, I've never noticed gass bubbles moving towards my hand. Normal bowel movements, not overly "windy", so gass seems a bit weird as well. It really feels more like baby movements. Confused We decided to get a HPT, POAS and it's negative. However, I know that HGC-levels drop after about 16 weeks, and if I could feel baby movements, then I'd probably be at 16 or later. Can you still use a HPT later in a pregnancy? Can't find anything on Dr. Google. Would it be really silly to call the GP tomorrow morning, see what they say?

Good luck, I was 25 weeks when I found out with dd1 and still got a positive but I know of others who've been pregnant but still got negatives. Glad you are going to find out one way or another. I'm pregnant with dc4 now and still have no idea on feeling for my uterus!

AteAWholePacketOfBiccys · 09/01/2012 14:14

Hope all is well with OP.
I didn't know I pregnant until I was 22 weeks. I had periods (light ones) and I didn't gain any weight - I was still wearing size 8 clothes
I do have IBS and thought it was that causing tummy rumbles Blush
I was on the pill the whole time, didn't eat well and have no medical care, clearly not an ideal situation.
My surprise baby was born healthy thankfully :)

Good luck OP, let us know how you got on.

banana87 · 09/01/2012 14:44

Good luck OP Grin

Well, you can all congratulate me with my big poo! Grin MW was also very fascinated with my story, scanned extensively and then very kindly said that sometimes when you feel something, your mind just runs with it Hmm. Must admit I'm relieved, because I started to get really worried about not having eaten enough fruit and vitamins, and having way too much sushi/unpasturized cheese/wine/Ibuprofin. :( On the other hand, still broody, so will get the vitamins and will finish my thesis ASAP now. :)

Right, off now to find some activia, flaxseed and all bran... Grin

vongratulations on a baking up a.big poo lol!! well I hope when the time is right you get some good news on a baby not a.poo x

ObiWan · 09/01/2012 15:24

Awww - congratulations on your big poo though, bet you can't wait for it to make an appearance Grin.

Still, when you do get pregnant again, at least you'll have no worries about phoning or heading to the hospital to get things checked out. None of this 'oh, should I call..I might be being daft'.

You just remember the time you phoned a midwife went in to have your poo scanned Grin.

MandaHugNKiss · 09/01/2012 15:27

Hmm, so our programme is actually 'I Didn't Know I was Constipated'?

Love it!

At least this episode has confirmed to you that you do indeed want to try for DC2 so lots of good luck (and awareness!) with that! Grin

flyingcloud · 09/01/2012 15:32

Aw, sounds like you've cooked up a really good poo there!

Don't you just love MN for all the goodwill generated towards a poo, imagine what it's going to be like when you come back with your pregnancy announcement.

Good luck TTC.

dutchyoriginal · 09/01/2012 15:36

Cabbage for dinner it is! My poo feels very welcomed by all your nice messages. Grin

The weird thing is, I still wonder about the HPT and until what week you can use them. The different manufacturers list nothing on their websites, or in the leaflets.

Am imagining you smiling exhaustedly, tenderly and proudly over the loo. Congratulations!

dutchyoriginal · 09/01/2012 16:10

Poo hasn't arrived yet! Will probably take some more time. Wondering whether I should update you all when that happens, but that would really be TMI and I'm not the poo troll (in case you started to wonder Hmm). Grin

Aww a Poo Baby how sweet! :o
Well done for brazening that out Dutchy the sonographer was probably bored of looking at human babies anyway!

KD0706 · 09/01/2012 16:39

I've just found this thread and was getting myself all excited as I read through it. Congratulations on the mahoosive poo OP. Grin

I've convinced myself I was pregnant a few times but never got to the stage of having a scan, I didn't know tests stop being reliable after a certain time.

I'm impressed that they managed to fit you in for a scan so soon, at least you know for sure now.

AteAWholePacketOfBiccys · 09/01/2012 17:59

A poo is not as good as a baby :)

But at least there's no health problems for you which could have been causing tummy problems. Which is what I was worried about when I had tummy rumbles and sickness but didn't know I was pregnant.
Update us on any real baby news please x

MotherPanda · 10/01/2012 10:31

When you do have a baby - what will it be called?

Winnie? (after said pooh...)

dutchyoriginal · 10/01/2012 13:16

Shock at MotherPanda

Think I'll need to namechange before discussing babynames etc.

Still very Blush about the whole thing. VERY glad I only told DH and MW in rl and managed to keep quiet to family and friends. The shame!
