Could anyone recommend any good books on labour that are specifically aimed at the first-time father/birth partner? My partner is reading everything I have lying around about active birth, Ina May Gaskin etc, but I wondered whether there was anything in particular anyone thought was good that was specifically aimed at OHs who want to be as involved and helpful as possible during labour?
Thanks.

Pregnancy for men, the whole none months - it's really funny but informative. Someone at my dh work gave it to him and it was the only pregnancy book I read that I was actually interested in.

Thanks, benne81 will look out for it. Could anyone recommend something that focuses on labour from the father-birth-partner's point of view, specifically? OH getting frustrated with everything we have lying about as either hippy or intended for someone with a brain the size of a pea.

There's an Australian book recently released called Cheers to Childbirth aimed at men but it does seem to be aimed at blokish, laddish men (ie the stereotypical Aussie bloke), It is written by a woman who runs pub sessions for expectant fathers so to be fair she has a lot of experience of what men want to know. My partner & I found the tone excruiating but there was some decent information in there.

The Bloke's Guide to Pregnancy is fantastic - perhaps not as detailed as you're after but both OH and I really enjoyed it and got a lot out of it, in terms of what to expect emotionally as well as practical info. I've actually gone back to it myself when my 'lady' pregnancy and baby books have got too scary/full on!

'Pub sessions for expectant fathers'??? I've heard it all now! Grin
Would it impugn their masculinity to go to a normal antenatal class?

Thanks for the recommendations, idlevice and monkeymamma.
