Hip pain

I'm 18 weeks pg with second baby. With my first I used to get sciatica towards the end but this time I have had pains on each side of my lower back/on the outer bit of each hip from very early on and it is getting worse. Not been excercising much recently and really struggled to walk around the supermarket today because of it and it feels like my hips are very stiff and never quite feel in the right position.

Spoke to a friend who has had SPD and she said it was her groin and inside of hip bones that were the problem so am hoping that means it isn't that? Any one else getting similar? Suppose I should mention it to the midwife, its definately getting worse and it makes moving around hard work. Its painful but not awful pain iyswim, more that my hips won't move properly so limits my movements.

I'm absolutely no expert, but what you're describing sounds distressingly like how my SPD started -- it was sort of around my hips in the back and sides, and more achy and stiff than sharp pains. I'm pretty sure I made mine worse by walking too fast and struggling through high winds (or perhaps twisting to close a car door in the winds, as that is something that really hurts a lot now): the pain made a step change to sharp pain in the pubic bone right after that day. So definitely mention it to the midwife, and I'd recommend being careful to not overdo things or do anything that twists or strains your hips.

Also, if they do think it's SPD and say something like they'll recommend a physio if it gets worse--ask for a physio appt now! I waited, and when it did get worse, the next physio appt was 8 weeks away (still another month to go before I see one).

Sad I'm struggling with my hips as well - now 24 + 1 weeks. mine are ok when I'm up and moving about but are really painful when I'm trying to sleep or lay on the sofa on my sides. I'm seeing the midwife end of the week so was going to ask her about them. As a teenager I had physio on one of my hips as I can pop it in and out of it's sockets - was my party trick at uni lol I found out last year I have shallow sockets so not sure if my hips are suffering because they are dodgy anyway or it is a normal pregnancy complaint. There's so many strange things that happen to our bodies - it's amazing how many problems something that weight 1lbs can make lol. I'll let you no o the midwife gives me any tips xx

I'm struggling with my left hip n left side of lower back. But I don't think in my case it's SPD. I know baby keeps going between transverse/oblique so more a case of her burrying her head in my hip and bloody he'll it's painful

thanks for the replies. ardenbird that is a long wait! are you and how many were you when it got v bad? limited now movement wise?

justhayley thanks yes tips would be great, think ak to my midwofe too as not due to see her for ten weeks. the pain in bed sounds familiar!

mellebobs mine is lower back but both sides so hopefully for you it is not spd. i remember getting awful pain and sciatica when dd was in certain positions in that pregnancy. horrible and restrictive isn't it i feel so slow!

today i felt better but have not left the house and got it back when i try and move quickly-also finding i can's stand for very long. gah! a, only 18weeks and barely look pregnant its embarassing!
