I'm (just) pregnant for the fourth time but I only have one child, do I count?

Dozeyland · 07/01/2012 20:26

Yeah of course :)

im 27 weeks with second and finding it very hard going generally on my body etc im esperiencing things much earlier thsn first time feel like I did at about 35 weeks!!
midwife assires me labour will be quicker this time!!x

MsEltoeNWhine · 07/01/2012 20:37

Well, I am much more aware of everything that can go wrong this time, and keeping it much more secret, I imagine I'll get a bump earlier this time as I was just beginning to round out a little when I lost my last at 17 weeks, with my DD I didn't show till I was 7-8 months.

I would like a longer labour if I ever get to labour again.

Dozeyland · 07/01/2012 20:42

You would like a longer labour?

I a only 20+5 and I feel like i'm about 30weeks. everyone says im small still but i feel like its all happening quick too, especially on my body. since i've hit 19ish weeks really, I feel like i'm so bloated. I havent had symptoms, like i didnt with DD, but i just feel worn out quickly especially lifting her, lifting the pushchair etc

I had a very quick labour with DD, so i do wonder how fast tis one will be.

Were you guys over due?

I went 5 days over with DD, no idea if i'll go over again this time?????

OP posts:
MsEltoeNWhine · 07/01/2012 20:46

I read the average time for first labour is 41+1 and subsquent average is 40+5, so I suppose there is a tendency to labour a couple of days earlier if that's accurate.

DD was due date plus 18 days.

Yes, I would like a longer labour, if I ever reach that stage again.

TheLittleFriend · 07/01/2012 20:49

I'm only 9+2 wks but am feeling better than I did with my dd at that point.

I went to 40+5 with her, it would be nice to arrive a few days earlier.

And I would like a longer labour too, or at least not any shorter. I worry I won't make it to hospital.

Dozeyland · 07/01/2012 20:53

Oh in that respect, me too, I literally got to hospital and DD was out and feeding 2 hours later. :o and that was a first baby... eek..

and my ward show round at 37weeks i had three MW's tell me that I was going to have a very efficient labour just by looking at me!

OP posts:
MsEltoeNWhine · 07/01/2012 21:37

I don't worry about hospital, DD was born at home with the MWs arriving 10 minutes before she did, and if I have another labour I would prefer the same, but I'd like DH to make it back for the event (1 hour commute) and I'd prefer time to get my head round the baby arriving and/or not just have DD for company.

Dozeyland · 07/01/2012 21:46

I'm not an ideal candidate for home birth due to the PPH, and i dont think I would want a home birth, just hope i have time to get to the hospital, and hope DP arrives!

I'm 27 weeks and booked in for c/s after having one with DD1. It's really strange to know the day that DD2 is going to be born and be able to plan exactly for it (I'm quite anal so like it a little bit!).

As for symptoms, I'd agree things seem more apparent earlier on, indigestion, spd, movement etc.

I think I'm still in a state of disbelief tbh!

Newtothisstuff · 08/01/2012 08:50

I'm 21 weeks with number %232 also booked In for 2nd c/s I feel really different this time.. Much more aware of things.. My back is killing me I feel like a whale already haha ! Although I managed to keep it secret from work until this week so I can't be that big !! Smile

MrsFathead · 08/01/2012 08:52

Im 24+4 and feel like im the size of a whale! My last pregnancy with DD and i didnt even start to show until i was 6 months. Ive already gained a stone and a half. I'll be avoiding the shore from now through fear i'll be harpooned.

The3Bears · 08/01/2012 09:36

I am only around 8 weeks but i feel alot worse than when I had ds, i feel constantly tired, constantly sick although I havent been sick yet, my boobs are terribly sore. I cannot believe how different this one is and I also feel like im showing a little bit which is very early. However they do say the 2nd time your more likely to show quicker.
I really hope my labour is quicker this time around as I was in labour for 2 days with ds and too tired at the end.
Ive been worrying alot more this time around not sure why just worried about everything being okay on the scan, and nothing going wrong. Im very worried about labour but I think thats because I know whats coming Grin

Marenostrum · 08/01/2012 20:59

I had a dream first pregnancy but quite a horrible labour, this time round I had a rough first trimester in terms of nausea and tiredness, and I am already feeling huge at 20 weeks, and still feeling off quite often. Labour is meant to be easier the second time though (surely, there has to be an upside?), so it would be the total opposite of my first.

Dozeyland · 08/01/2012 21:06

I just hope that I have enough time to get to the hospital, and also dont have the PPH.... Apart from that my first labour was great (obviously painful, but did it au natural just what i planned)

If you manage without pain relief the first time, is it possible that you will in subsequent labours? obviously depends on baby size etc. but just wondered for those of you.....

I'm 26 weeks and finding this pg much smoother so far than with DD - very few symptoms and hardly notice it. I think all pregnancies are very individual and hard to generalise much about difference between 1st and 2nd.

Only symptom I am starting to get now, which is VERY annoying and probably much worse given I have already been through one pg and vb, is stress incontinence on coughing and sneezing.

Quick labour for me too last time (well, 19 hours from first twinge to fully out, but 5cm to born in less than 2 hours) so it seems likely this one will be quick too.

Really torn over hospital vs home. For some reason, even though last labour was problem free I am much more nervous about something going wrong and having to emergency transfer this time. But I don't really fancy the trip to hospital and worrying about making it on time either...

Gas and air last time - really wanted an epidural but no time. Am thinking I can probably do it on g&a again, especially knowing I have got through it once before.

The3Bears · 09/01/2012 12:26

I really hope I have a easier labour 2nd time around as the preganancy seems worse.

MissCoffeeNWine · 09/01/2012 19:50

I've had to labour with two later miscarriages as well as with DD, didn't have anything for any of them, except a sleeping tablet after for one, so I reckon so.

MissCoffeeNWine · 09/01/2012 19:54

Mackrelmint - My first MC was an 18 hour natural labour, DD was less than 3 hours first twinge to placenta out, and my second MC was induced, baby and placenta out 1 hour 15 minutes after first twinge.

I would not enjoy giving birth at the side of the road.

blueskydrinking · 09/01/2012 20:14

Does anyone else worry about arrangements for your current DC(s) when you go into labour?

In theory, I shouldn't have anything to worry about, PILs have agreed to look after DS and a friend of mine offered herself as 'back-up' if needed.

But I'm still worrying... firstly because they're terrible with their phones and I worry about not being able to reach them. Secondly, because it's a very private experience for me, I'm worrying that their arrival at whatever point will feel very intrusive (they're lovely but you know... I wouldn't let them watch me having a poo). Thirdly, about DH not being there to support me because he's dealing with DS. Or his parents. And so on and so on.

blueskydrinking · 09/01/2012 20:14

(I'm a planner and the unpredictability of birth sends me a bit loopy).

Dozeyland · 09/01/2012 20:37

Blueskydrinking I have the same thoughts - DP is away, an due back the day BEFORE the EDD :o (eeek) So fingers crossed Baby holds out until then. SIL will be birthing partner too and only lives round the corner, but I will have to drop DD off at her Grampy's (as its on the way to the hospital) and then go there i guess BUT... a big but... is that DD's labour was SO quick that I only hope I have enough time getting there, what if I don't :( and what if DP doesnt make it home, or i dont know. I just feel a bit nervous this time in regards to actually getting the the hospital before baby's head is out! who knows it may be a longer more difficult labour, but as most people have said to me that the 2nd is usually wuicker and easier - i will not have a lot of time!

OP posts:
The3Bears · 09/01/2012 20:39

Im slightly worried about it also, have had my sister and mum offer to watch ds but what about if its the middle of the night! And the labour is very quick, Im such a worrier :) Im sure everything will just work out

Dozeyland · 09/01/2012 20:51

I have the same thoughts! I guess we can't predict unfortunately, but can't help but think "What if!!"

MIL has offered to have DD but its out of the way from the hospital, so Grampy will have her, even if it is in the night i guess... I just need to hope that baby will be on EDD or few days after, not too lat! dd was 5days late.
I also hope that it starts like hers, literally hardly any pain but then i KNEW... I just dont want to be left thinking... is it? is it not? ifyswim
