Could this be it? Could it be labour?

I am currently 39 weeks and have had a range of happenings that may be labour. This is my first so I'm not too sure what to expect (I've read about it but know it can be different for everyone). I lost the mucus plug in the last three days and bump has been sat much lower than before. My bump has visibly dropped and I can feel a lot of movement internally down by my pelvis/cervix. In the last three or four days I've felt weak and lethargic. I've also had backache for the first time in pregnancy low in my back/bottom area like I need a big poo that won't come out. I can really feel bump down there and feel crunching and popping down there.

Well tonight I've started having painful backache that lasts about a minute and comes every 12-15 minutes roughly. Once it's gone it's like it's never happened (although I still have low level backache).
Everytime I try to walk it off, it hurts more. Sometimes the pain starts when I'm walking about (making cups of tea, frequent toilet run).

Could these be braxton hicks?Or has my back finally given way?

Oh there's been no broken waters.

Sounds like it could be, I would get walking around and see if you can bring the pains on, I felt my contractions early on as back ache, until it moved around the front and was hurting both sides. How long have you been having the pains for?

BroomForMyChin · 06/01/2012 23:53

It could be! Very exciting. I'd try and get a bit of sleep if you can. I was also given this advice but ignored it as I was too excited to sleep Grin

spritzercat · 07/01/2012 00:04

Oh I hope so! God help me if these are Braxton Hicks!

Purple the pain started a couple of hours ago and definitely felt different to what I'm used to. Ironically I was describing braxton hicks to OP on another pregnancy thread just before it happened.

Broom I know what you mean! It's painful but potentially very exciting!

Oooh good thread! I've had a sweep this morning and was 1cm dilated so now analysing every twinge and pain now. I lost my mucus plug about an hour and a half ago and am hoping this is it so I know how excited you must be!
My mum was telling me earlier that she had her contractions in her back when I was born, sounds like you are having the same. Hope this is it for you and all goes well :)

BroomForMyChin · 07/01/2012 19:26

Ooh nickelbabe! I lurked on your thread for ages but didn't catch the ending. How are you? How's the baby? Hope your both doing well.

nickelhasababy · 07/01/2012 21:35

Hi Broom - we're okay, thanks!
She's screaming a bit downstairs, because DH is changing her nappy, which means she'll want to be fed any second now.
Just getting a bit of MN in before my turn starts! Grin

BroomForMyChin · 07/01/2012 22:59

Awww Congratulations Grin

You also get to be a famous mumsnetter now as an added bonus.

Sorry I disappeared for so long but have just left hospital with miss spritzercat. I had her on 7th January pm and she was 6lb 6oz.

Well it was eventful to say the least! I rang triage and explained the above and they reluctantly said to come in if I wanted. After been on the monitor for 1/2 hour I was offered an examination which I obviously agreed to. Just as well, I was 5cm dialated Shock Midwife said she hadn't believed me initially. Apparently I was too cheerful Confused

Anyway I started off as a water birth, with gas and air and ended up in theatre, legs in stirrups and having several people use forceps to pull little one out. Quite a lot happened in between that wasn't great at all!

We're both fine after the 22 hour labour and now at home looking at each other in shock! Smile Smile

Congratulations spritzer thats wonderful news. Hows DD doing?

5cm! By the time i was 5cm i had to wheelchaired into the hospital as i could barely move. My delivery ended very similarly to yours too. I hope your all right, I was shell shocked by it all for a while.

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 08/01/2012 21:58

Oh congratulations! Sorry you had a rough old time of it. If it helps I was like well I don't have to do that again for x amount of time or ever again if I don't want to! Thanks Wine Brew

nickelhasababy · 09/01/2012 10:52

spitzer - i had that problem about being too cheerful! I was saving my moaning for when it really hurt!

Congratulations on the birth, sorry it turned into such a fiasco in the end. (mine also ended up in quite a bit of forcing the baby out! episiotomy cos it was at home and they didn't have forceps there)

Thanks
freckly12 · 09/01/2012 12:06

Congrats!!! xxxx

spritzercat · 09/01/2012 21:59

Thank you for your lovely comments! DD is doing absolutely fine. She's quite placid at the moment so fingers crossed this is the way forward!

Well my botty hurts like a good one. I must admit I'm dreading my first post baby poo. I have a repaired tear and forcep bruising so very a bit anxious about it all. Mind you I'm sat here having a lovely splash of brandy and lemonade so at this moment in time I feel very proud of myself!

Any botty advice is greatly welcomed by the way!!! Grin

I had a very very similar experience and its very sore afterwards warm baths will help peices of gauze with witch haze on popped,in the freezer are very nice.
first poo is ok I was petrefied it was v soft and easy mother nature is clever!x

nickelhasababy · 10/01/2012 13:33

drink lots and lots and lots of water.

I was amazed by the first poo, actually, I was convinced it'd hurt like mad!
but it didn't - there was an awful lot of poo , but it was all really soft, and just fell out. In fact, it was so easy, I thought "oh great, there's going to be hardly any poo there" and i looked in the pan and it was full Shock

BroomForMyChin · 10/01/2012 13:51

I had an epi and a tear and was quite sore but the 1st poo really wasn't that bad. I was also on iron tablets because i lost a lot of blood and the midwifes had said it might make pooing harder so i was quite petrified when it came to doing it. But like others have said it was really soft. Hold a damp fannel on your foof for reassurance if that helps.

You sound like you are doing brilliantly, well done!

nickelhasababy · 10/01/2012 14:38

oh, yes, that's what I did - flannel on the underbeneathsies for that only the anus would be stretched! Grin

homeaway · 10/01/2012 15:02
