Hi - i'm 24 weeks pregnant and the last week or so whenever i've stood up from sitting down, my "nether regions" have hurt like hell. Its kind of around the pubic bone, takes me ages to be able to stand up straight. Is this SPD or am i just an old bird???

Sounds like the start of SPD to me, mention it to your MW and get some physio.

yep certainly sounds like the start of it, speak with your mw and see if they can reffer you to get one of those belt supports. I found it did nothing for me but then I had had it for over 2 months and couldn't even turn over in bed without help from DH, he also had to help me in and out of the bath as I was unable to step over the edge of the bath. It really was total agony.

The belt supports (called girdle belts I think) did nothing for me either, I was given crutches too, but nor did they help.

are there any other symptoms and does it have any affects on the baby or the birth?

I have this too and wondered if it affects delivery!

It won't affect the baby at all so don't worry about that. Depending on how severly you are affected towards the end of the pregnancy it may affect the type of birth you have. An experienced midwife/consultant will be able to advise and help but it might mean that you are encouraged not to have your legs open too wide or have stirrups, for instance.

There is an offical website that offers support but i can't seem to find it at the moment so here is some more info in the meantime.

I had spd with both my pregnancies but what made it TONNES better the 2nd time was recognising the symptoms earlier and then seeing an osteopath every 2 weeks who had experience of this condition. It was much better this time round as a consequence.

oh, apparently the website (www.spd-uk.org) is undergoing maintenance at the moment so you can't get on it
