Boots stretch mark oil

I'm 9 weeks at the moment and have been using Boots 'expert stretch mark oil'. I thought I'd read the instructions all the way through but just re-read and realised it says at the end 'suitable for use from your third month onwards'! i.e. not this early?!

Does anybody know whether this is just because they think you won't need it before 3 months, or whether it's because it can cause baby damage if used too early?! Now having (another!) panic!

Probably because they don't want anyone to sue in the event their product used and the mother miscarries and blames them for it - 12 weeks means miscarriage is less likely and therefore they're less likely to be sued. Or something.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer but didn't want your post to go unanswered. If its any help, I started using Boots own brand bio-oil (is that what you are using?) from around that time (I didn't read the instructions carefully) and I am now 23 weeks and everything appears fine so I an keeping my fingers crossed. I am sure you will be fine, just wait till you are 12 weeks before you start using it again if you are really anxious.
Hth.

According to various researches, any anti-stretch oil doesn't help - stretch marks are genetic. Sort of placebo. But it helps in cases of itcheness though.. Boots puts 3rd trimester on instruction because, honsetly, there's nothing to stretch yet as such

Thanks all, duvetfan, that's really reassuring (yes it is the bio-oil exquivalent) - I think that's all I needed to hear really, that somebody else had done the same and everything was ok! x

tulla is right it doesn't make any difference to the stretch marks or otherwise. another benefit though is that its very relaxing after a long day!

No need to worry - it would clearly say in big capital letters not to use it in first trimester if there were any concerns/problems at all with doing that.

hi out of interest, doesit have a low amount of rosemary oil in it? bio oil does and odly it is contraindicated in aromatherapy for pregnancy so i am not sure how that works! it's probably just as has been said, due to risk of problems in first 3 months they don't want any link to, so am sure its fine. i am a bit sceptical of the pre blended oils from these companies, wheatgerm oil unrefined is the best thing, just on its own,.

Peasandyoghurt · 07/01/2012 19:10

surfmama, no rosemary. Ingredients: vitis vinifera seed oil, isononyl isononanoate, simmoncisia chinensis oil, triticum vulgare germ oil, prunus persica kernel oil, tocopheryl acetate.

Haven't a clue what a single one of them are! Haven't heard of wheatgerm oil helping before. All so confusing. Old lady in boots who saw what I was buying told me olive oil on it's own is the best thing. I've no idea what to go with!

Hi I forgot to add, it did nothing to help the stretch marks (didn't really expect it too) but it made my skin soft so at least my stretch marks feel nice...I am now using sanctuary mum to be and palmer's stretch mark cream...which is like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. Blush

surfmama · 08/01/2012 18:52

that's okay i don't thnk rosemary oil would do drastic bad things, but essential oils are untested on pregnancy and newborns so i do find it odd that bio oil has it in there. happy rubbing. i have just had a bath and then massaged some almond oil with a weeny bit of rose all over, feel great now! must get that wheatgerm in just in case it can save me!
