Dental treatment in pregnancy?

Inspired by another dental thread with helpful advice, I'm hoping someone could fill me in about what dental treatment I should expect. I'm 39+1 weeks' pregnant as yesterday I woke up to find that one of my molars which has a huge amalgam filling had partly crumbled around the filling, leaving me with no tooth on the inside of my mouth.

I have bruxism and wear a guard which totally covers the tooth, and I'm not in pain, though it's very sharp. The first emergency appointment I could get is on Tursday, when i'll be 39+5. What can I expect to happen next week? Will I need a crown, and would they do that at this stage? Do I need to be concerned about removing the old filling, and what pain relief would be safe?

Thanks for any advice you can provide - and all of this is assuming I don't give birth before then...

I should clarify that I only wear the splint at night, which is the only time I grind my teeth. And apologies for the scanty grammar in the last post.

If I were your dentist I would patch some filling onto the tooth until after the baby- at 39+ weeks not long to wait and you don't need big dental treatment ATM. No pain relief would be needed.
Then after baby comes perhaps a new filling or a crown- difficult to know without seeing it.

Thank you blacktreacle! That all sounds like something I can deal with. Will the dentist be able to do the temporary filling at the emergency appointment, do you think? Thanks.

Yes just mix up some glass ionomer cement and stick it on. Not a permanent solution but should last a month or so.
