Hate it, Hate it, Hate!! It's having a huge impact on my day to day life, I'm not actually being sick but feeling sick and the heartburn is awful, Midwife thinks I'm 9 weeks I think more 7, can the doctor prescribe anti sickness tablets or will they not if i'm not actually being sick?

For the heartburn you can get either Gaviscon on prescription (free) from your GP, or (far nicer) supermarket own brand indigestion/heartburn relief sweets.

Don't know if they'll prescribe anti-sickness tablets for normal morning sickness but it can't hurt to ask. It generally helps to have something to eat if you feel sick (although I couldn't face anything or didn't have time between waking and retching) - the MW told me in my first pregnancy that it was often down to low blood sugar levels, so I should keep a stash of Mars bars nearby. Now to me that's as good as being prescribed chocolate!

They would prescribe them if you are dehydrated. They check your urine for ketones. I have had it with all 3 pregnancies. It's not nice. Hope it passes soon

There's a good chance they will prescribe it if it is seriously affecting your day to day life - say feeling too ill to go to work - but particularly, as danielou says, if you are getting dehydrated so do ask them to test your urine.

I've been on anti-emetics now since about 7w, and I'm currently 38+3! I haven't physically been sick since somewhere in the late 20w's but I do still feel v nauseous and am too scared to come off the tablets in case the sickness returns. None of the various Drs I've had over the past few months have had an issue with continuing to prescribe to me even though it is to combat nausea rather than actual sickness.

Oh, and as fliss says, low blood sugar plays a huge role in managing nausea so do try and find something you can get down you regularly, even if it is a biscuit or a handful of crisps! (now is not the time to be worrying too much about how healthy your diet is Smile)
