3D scans what would you do?

I've just booked a 3D scan for 1st Feb, i will be 29 weeks + 6 and the website says they get the best images between 24 and 28 weeks, 30 is their cut off but the lady said i would be fine one day before as it's all they have free, they are fully booked till then (must be making a mint)!!

Anyway money is a bit tight at the mo and it will be for the next 2/3 months!

I've booked the cheapest scan which is £75, you get a 15 minute scan, they double check the sex and you get 4 x 3D photos!

The next package up is £105 and you get a 20 minute scan, plus the sex and photos and you also get a CD of the photos and a DVD, so you get the dvd, CD and 5 mins longer for an extra £30

Would you scrape the money together to upgrade, 105 sounds a lot more than 75 to me but it's oly £30 really so i dunno what to do, the sensible part of me thinks i could buy her Bumbo seat with that £30!!

Seeing as no one is totally sure that there are no side effects from scanning, I wouldn't be having a needless scan and would save myself the seventy five quid Smile

I'm with wildthings. There are much better things to spend £75 on.

indicababy · 05/01/2012 16:21

also think 3d scans looklike freaky wax babies

We had one just before Xmas and it was £60-70 for 15 mins and 2 photos. At the end they let us have a look at ALL the photos they'd got and then we could decide if we wanted to buy a did with them on rather than commit to the next package up which was a big jump or buy photos that might have been rubbish. Give um a ring n see what u can negotiate

OT, but I wouldn't get the Bumbo...

I posted about something similar because of a lack of money. I had it done a month ago at 27 weeks and absolutely loved it. It hasn't been an easy pregnancy and I had just left hospital a couple of days before. Left me and my DP with peace of mind and we we able to see what parts of us our DD has. I have recommended it to all my friends and all my family have loved the pictures, since I am the first person in my family to have a scan let alone anything else.

I would pay extra for DVD and CD since we ended up giving all our family copies they could keep, unlike the hospital pictures which we have about 3 of. Best thing we've ever done.

A little note on the 'safety' of them, I asked the head midwife in the hospital and she said they haven't had any problems with people who have had them done. They even remembered when I had to go in last weekend for an emergency and was looking at them as I keep them with my maternity notes - they were also amazed!

Good luck :)

WWID? Not have the scan is what I would do (you did ask)

Seems a bit pointless to me.

I'd go for it. I had one at 29+3 and the pictures were incredibly clear. My Dh didn't want to come as like some people have mentioned on here he was a bit freaked by the waxy/ freaky images, but it's different when it's your baby and he loved it.

Personally I had found it hard to get attached to the baby before then (because I was scared of something going wrong), so seeing his/her face and seeing them move around, and do things like yawn was really important to me and really helped me.

It was a very positive experience.
