Sorry, this is my 2nd post of the day. During a scan no yolk scan was seen, but a fetel pole was.

I have googled this and it says "The fetal pole is a thickening on the margin of the yolk sac of a fetus during pregnancy"

Im confused, can anyone help please?

Hi Claw3. I have no particular knowledge but from what I have read when learning about my own pregnancy it's what they call the very early developing foetus, before it is big enough to be recognisable as such.

Yup, very early fetus. It looks like a kidney bean/peanut on a stick...or did at my first scan (bleeding) Lots of nice images. Can be seen anywhere between 6 and 9 weeks usually.

As for the not seeing a yolk sac, have they suggested you come back for another scan in a couple of weeks? If it's causing you any concern, ring MW/GP/sonographer and ask them what it means. They're usually fairly forthcoming with any possible issues.

Thanks for replies, it was the 'thickening on the margin of the yolk sac' that had me confused, i was hoping it didnt mention yolk sac because fetel pole had been seen. Clutching at straws really.

Yes Oeisha, i have another scan in a weeks time. Thanks again.
