water retention and weight gain

I'm 22 weeks. I have put on 11kg. I think a lot of this is water retention as my diet isn't bad (although there have been a few more treats then usual) and my body feels bloated. What can I do to try to stop water retention? I also had the same problem with previous pregnancies and the weight came off quite quickly after the birth but this is getting me down.
Thanks for any advice

I have no idea but just wanted to give you some moral support, I'm huge! And only 19 weeks. Hope somebody has some good suggestions Wink

Look out for sudden or severe swellings, especially round face, hands and ankles and report to MW immediatly.
Otherwise this link might help?

thanks Commutinghell, moral support is good! I was determined that this pregnancy was going to be the one where I just looked like I had swallowed a ball...but sadly not!

Other than that, stop weighing yourself!

Honestly - it serves no purpose during pregnancy which is why women are not weighed routinely any more. It is impossible to tell what is fat, what is water, what is blood, what is placenta, what is amniotic fluid and what is actual baby.

Usually the advice to prevent water retention is to drink more water and to take in less salt, I would assume that would apply in pregnancy as well as any other time :)
