Big fear of tearing ( apart from baby's health) DD2 due in 10 weeks; DD1 was 8lb 1 small graze, natural waterbirth...
today bump measuring a week ahead, ANd 90th percentile.
I am not huge, have jogged until 26 weeks, and exercise 3x a week and am fairly normalpuddingconsumptionbalanced with my diet (bmi 23 before, have put on 5.5kilos so far)

What can I do to limit the size of this one? Planning a homebirth, freaking out about stitches. If I cut back on puddings and choccy does that make any difference... also... can you take protein supplementation in pregnancy?

Perineal massage.
And don't worry if it just from tum measurements they mean very little in terms of babies size and is more to make sure you don't have sudden size increase or lack of growth. Also it is your second so things will be nice and stretchy down there and if you only had a small graze with your 8lber I am sure you will be fine.

Apparantly I was 10lbs at birth and was a homebirth, no stitches, so I woudn't panci you may well be fine.

dont worry i was measuring lfd by 5wks everyone was in a tizz about it and sent me for a scan in the end baby was slightly bigger than norm but pretty fine for dates. tummy measuring is not very scientific.
i also had and 8.10 which i tore with and 9.10 and a 10.5 were both fine so dont worry unnecessarily. if you do tear you wont notice tbh and the stitches dont hurt at the time and are not to bad after if taken care of properly.

Your baby will grow according to it's genetic predisposition. Undereating or overeating won't affect the baby, but will most certainly affect you. I had a tear with DD, and she was only 6lb8oz. As you only grazed with your first child, chances are you won't tear with this baby either. Even if you do - it's not that bad. They use stitches that disintegrate after 2-3 days and they are experts at sewing up women and leave minimum scarring.

thanks for this info! I have this horrid mindset on stitches, but if they aren't that bad then I guess it isn't worth getting myself into such a tizzy about it!

I always measured a week small and DS2 was 10lb 5oz born at home with no stitches. So measuring big doesn't always mean a big baby and big baby doesn't always mean stitches.

Good luck Smile
