I know 17 weeks is early and I wasn't feeling much anyway but at night had been feeling the occasional wriggle most nights for a week or so. Now I haven't felt anything for two days but could it just be that the baby has moved position or something? I'vee been reading about count the kicks but this seems too early to worry, with dd I felt nothing till gone 18weeks.

Hi, I wrote a very similar post yesterday, I'm 16 weeks and been feeling movement since about 12 weeks. I felt the baby give a good wriggle on Thursday night then hadn't felt anything and by Saturday morning was worrying. I eventually felt movement yesterday evening in completely different place than I have felt before and same spot today so obviously little one has moved and is more difficult to feel or maybe it just had a quiet few days, I'm not sure. If it hadn't been a long bank hol weekend I would have gone to my GP, maybe if you don't feel anything tonight you can call your hospital tomorrow and speak to a midwife or see your GP on Tuesday ? So hard not to worry or think about anything else isn't it, I really hope you can get some peace of mind quickly.

Thanks, that makes sense and I am glad you felt movement. I have tried caffiene and poking my tummy but nothing so far it is really hard not to obsess. DD has been really ill (hospital ill) so I have been very stressed wonder if that is anything to do with it. I will see if I get anything tonight when in bed and may ring midwife tomorrow/tues if not but hopefully it is a position change like you.

Hi, I had exactly this a couple of weeks ago (when I was also 17 weeks). There had been lots of little kicks and pushes then nothing for a few days.

I called the mw who told me to nip in and she'd have a listen. Gave me the prep/pep talk about not panicking if we couldn't hear baby straight away, but as soon as she put the sonicaid on my bump it was pounding and kicking away. Like you say, things must just have changed position but it was SUCH a relief.

Give your midwife a call so that they can reassure you, it's not worth worrying about. I'm sure everything is absolutely fine but the way I saw it, if there was a problem then the sooner it was picked up the better.

Try filling your bladder and then lying on your front whilst you read/MN etc. I can always feel the lo better when I have a full bladder as it kind of pushes the uterus forwards.

working9while5 · 02/01/2012 00:09

Hi I am in same situation, apparently movements not really regular until later anyway and at this stage the position can vary so much they may be somewhere where you feel them less keenly. I have anterior placenta again so it varies hugely, I felt a lot of movement one day last week then virtually nothing and it is all quite faint but has been there for a good few weeks.

Before freaking out too much, I used to get a VERY cold coke and a Mars bar, scoff VERY quickly, lie on sofa. That usually got them moving pretty sharpish. It also gave me terrible heartburn, but you gotta do what you gotta do and anxiety gave me indigestion anyway.

Wouldn't recommend doing it daily though, or you'll be 100 stone by the time you deliver...

It probably is that baby has their feet and other pokey bits facing inwards, where you can't feel the kicks/wriggles so much. Also he/she is still very wee...

Thinking about it, this solution to unnecessary worrying may also be why I had 2 x 9lb 8oz babies...

I'm 5ft 1 and used to be a size 8. Ouch and double ouch.

Therefore feel free to disregard this advice as possibly hazardous to your perineum/pelvic floor.

Hi everyone thank you so much for the replies, all reassuring and sorry I disappeared, DD been a nightmare at night since being ill and I left my laptop in her room then was too scared to get it in case I woke her up!

I THINK I felt movements early this morning, didn't get much sleep and had some horrific cramps so was worried but they stopped quickly (prob all the fudge I ate last night!) and I felt a bit of wriggling I think.

However I really want coke and a mars bar now so may try that later if its another quiet day! In fact at my 20 week scan with dd she wouldnt move so they couldnt measure properly and they told me to have coke and chocolate and a little walk and come back to see if she'd changed position. XP swears they said coke OR chocolate but I know what I heard!

I think I may call the midwife if it stays quieter than usual in there, as you say, no point worrying when it can be quickly checked. I feel much better though thank you. Waves to Starlight!

PS will try lying on my front with a full bladder too, been meaning to ask (silly question alert) is lying on your front ok as long as its comfy? I know pg women say they miss doing this and I still am doing it but wasn't sure if I should? I guess its more that it is uncomfortable later on? Is it lying flat on our backs we shouldn't do? I am clueless!

It's too early to worry how you sleep but when bump gets bigger you shouldn't lie on your back. However, mother nature is clever and you won't be comfortable doing it anyway etc. Lying on your front is fine but might be uncomfortable later.

Fwiw, I had a routine appointment last week but with GP instead of mw ( as on holiday). She sPent about 20 mins trying to hear heartbeat and couldn't but still dismissed me for 4 weeks saying she wasn't worried.

I'm alright with this (as can feel hub moving so it either has a heartbeat or doesn't need one) but can't help thinking it wouldn't have been very nice treatment for many others.

Kayzr · 02/01/2012 11:54

Starlight, I've just had that at my MW appt at 14 weeks. She couldn't find the heartbeat and I've spent the last 2 weeks in a panicSad. Got another appt on thurs and a scan on Saturday.

I've been feeling a few fluttering type movements but nothing in any pattern yet.

used2bthin · 02/01/2012 19:54

Ah ok, I really don't know much about this stuff. I remember having to lie almost upright in the late stages with dd due to heartburn, not being able to breathe etc and would have my feet up on pillows at the end of the bed due to restless legs-which are already driving me mad this time.

kayzr I read your thread, hope things go well for you at the scan, fourteen weeks is still early for hearing the heartbeat and I'd imagine its very reassuring to feel movements.

I'm feeling the occasional thing but much fainter than it was so am guessing its positional. Horrible cramps today have worried me but seem to have stopped now.

StarlightMcKenzie · 02/01/2012 20:04

Kazyr My cousin is a midwife. She says that even very good midwives can sometimes not get a heartbeat at 16 weeks, so surely 14 is even more difficult. Flutters should be reassuring. Try not to panic.

Also, like working says, many things can be in the way i.e. placenta. No-one seems to be able to tell me where my placenta is, but given the doctor could get nothing but loads of wooshing sounds I'm assuming it is anterior like working's which I'm not overjoyed about as could mean an eventual back to back baby as they like to fact their placenta's apparently - grrr.

StarlightMcKenzie · 02/01/2012 20:07

Working Just a thought. Did you have a back to back last time? If not, could you have had an undiagnosed back to back which meant it wasn't in position when you were 'supposed' to push?

Feel free to ignor my questions btw. None of my business really and you may not want to discuss.

working9while5 · 02/01/2012 20:32

Yup Starlight and they knew too.. inducing me post-dates on a drip after waters had gone was never going to work well Hmm

StarlightMcKenzie · 02/01/2012 20:35

on yer back?

Oh dear dear me.......

SarahB75 · 03/01/2012 16:22

This happened to me at about 23 weeks (im now 29 weeks) and I went to hospital for them to check they said I was just too stressed with work and so busy I didnt notice baby moving. They should let you listen to heart to reassure you but im sure it is fine, often my bump has quiet days which at first used to send me into blind panic but I have learnt to not worry now.

I would always call your doctor if your worried and they should get you in to listen to heart beat, dont sit at home and worry is my advice.

Hope all is okay.

used2bthin · 04/01/2012 22:43

Thanks sarah sorry only just checked the thread. Feeling very definate kicks as of yesterday night! More definate kicks than the wriggling feeling I had before which is strange to get used to but very reassuring.
