Hi ladies, not too sure where to post this, but quick question....
I am looking at getting some baby clothes and was thinking I will just get a few newborn things and mostly 0-3 to get the use out of them, especially for cardigans and stuff. Will 0-3 month cardigans fit a newborn or should I buy newborn specific ones? Thanks in advance! :)

Should be ok but big. Just as in adult sizes you get variation on kids clothes. Seem to remember boots and mother care came up smaller than John Lewis or m and s.

Hrm, does anyone have any idea whether tesco 00-00 size is good for a newborn? Their size chart is hard to understand!

Thanks gigondas, I think I will just get 2 cardigans in 0-3 and can always get a newborn or more 0-3 later! Just want to be a little bit prepared!

Depends on size of baby! I got a mixture of newborn and 0 to 3. Then DS was only teeny @ 6lb13 and it was all too big to DH got sent out to buy early baby stuff!

The bigger stuff did get worn eventually though, and if you need more small stuff the 24 hr supermarketts will sort you out

Tesco 00-00 is defo fine for newborn . DD was 8lbs 7oz and she still wasn't big enough for most 0 to 3 months. Mamas and Papas comes up small as does Gap.

I think next's up to 1mth size is very good for the first couple of weeks, for an average sized newborn (up to 10lb)

Dd2 was 8lb8oz born and next up to one month fitted her for ages, probably up to about 3 months. Especially cardigans.

Thanks! We are looking at Tesco for some basics and went slightly crazy at BabyGap over the weekend so will be interesting to see the difference in sizing!

Remember that people will also buy you clothes when your baby is born, and quite often they will get things for the baby to wear straight away so you may find yourself with a lot of small clothes :)

Thanks QED, my family are all in Oz tho so doubt I will be getting much. :)

I've got loads of clothes given to me and they are all different sizes some newborn sizes are only up to 8lbs but others are but to 10lbs, i would check the lables for the actual lbs not just the months. I've bought a tiny baby vest and sleepsuit too just incase, my sister was told she was having a big baby and ended up with a 5 lbs full term baby with no clothes to fit her. Was from local asda so can easliy change size if not needed.

I bought normal newborn stuff for my son and then he decided to be born 3 weeks early. I had to send my hubby to do some shopping and get tiny baby outfits and micro baby nappies :)

RockChick1984 · 01/01/2012 20:56

I knew ds was going to be big so didn't buy anything newborn, just 0-3 and when he was born (8lb 6 so not small!) nothing fit, he looked swamped in all the stuff I'd bought, had to make an emergency tesco run although the newborn stuff only fit for about 3 weeks so glad we didn't go mad on loads of it!
