Walking? Yoga?

Sarahmarie2505 · 30/12/2011 12:45

How far/fast should I walk cause I've been walking about 1.5 miles a day but I'm still getting bigger?

Well at 12 weeks I would assume its water retention/bloat rather then actual weight. I would keep to a comfortable pace and not push yourself.

Jezzabell · 30/12/2011 13:19

Why can't you go swimming? I wouldn't worry about what you look like and am sure you look fine. I'm 30 weeks and was a size 16 when i got preganant and i just got a lovely maternity swimsuit and get on with it. Who cares what anyone thinks, it's you and your baby that matter. Swimming is great to do in pregnancy, I really enjoy it. Do they do an aqua natal clas near you or pregnancy yoga? If you do a class with other mums to be then you'll probably feel better about it.

I'm also piling on the pounds way too quickly. I'm 10 weeks and feel more like 20! I got davina's pregnancy workout DVD and am aiming to go swimming once DS1 back at school and once DS2 starts Pre school in feb. I did aqua natal in both previous pregnancies and it was great. Good luck!

Sarahmarie2505 · 30/12/2011 17:32

I like the sound of aqua natal! I'm like 15 stone now doubt I will find a swim suit Xmas Blush i don't believe they do that in my area if I'm not looking too hideous I may try and get my mum to come swimming with me so I can hide behind her when I get out

I found a swimsuit, and was about the same as you when I was at 10 weeks. Dread to think what I am now. Not looking forward to that part of my doctors appt on tues :( I did find a great swimsuit on amazon though, that I have been raving to everyone about. Even fits my ginormo-breasts.

Still, you may have spurred me on to go for a nice walk today...! I do try to do 40 lengths at the pool a couple of times a week, but I think regularity is the key. And also not eating shite, which I am finding difficult...!

Sarahmarie2505 · 30/12/2011 17:43

Lol a walk today? It's dark and raining now ? Lol what swimsuit was it??

this one. It's great and still fits me fine at 27 weeks.

Ah, I live overseas, so it's only 1PM here and chilly but lovely and sunny.

lottiegb · 30/12/2011 18:05

I bought a nice black swimsuit, with expanding tummy area, from Mothercare online. Have been wearing it happily since about 22 weeks, now 28 and plenty of room still in it.

Are there any pre-natal exercise classes in your area? We have a general 'keep fit' one, pilates and yoga. Some of them have post-natal Mum and Baby versions too. You could do some stretchy aerobic exercises at home and use little weights for arm strength.

OTTMummA · 30/12/2011 20:23

Im 18st, bmi 42, and 10 weeks pregnant, i was swimming last week, my secret,,, i don't give a shit about people looking at me.
Im sure you look a whole lot better than me in a swim suit, so go for it.

surfmama · 31/12/2011 08:59

hate chlorine it makes me wheezy so i have crossed swimming out... Except for a few brief dips in the sea in wet suit! so walking it is. i try and go everyday, rain or shine (no such thing as bad weather just wrong clothes) get some waterproofs. also going to start pilates or yoga but everything is so far away from me i have to travel so one class a week will have to do. agree though, if your alright with chlorine just embrace the pool!

i didn't want to go swimming at first cause i was worried the kids might mistake me for a whale but in the end i went and felt like Heidi Klum compared to most of the non pregnant ppl there and believe me i'm no Heidi Klum!

TopazMortmain · 01/01/2012 00:35

I'm off the 'slap on a big bikini and who cares if you scare the horses' school of swimming when pregnant. No-one can see you underwater and anyone who looks like they are being judgmental at the poolside can judge away....

I do a very good seal impression too

Grin

Don whatever fits and jump in.

I'm 24 weeks and was size 14/16 before I got pregnant - still fitting into my old swimsuit at the moment.

I want to carry on swimming while I still can and I'm enjoying it, but will feel annoyed if I end up buying a maternity swimsuit just for the last few months, will seem like such a waste of money. Still, I love swimming so I want to carry on.

I try and walk 45-50 minutes at least 2 or 3 times a week but get an ache low down in the abdomen if I walk too far, I find (have to walk v v slowly to compensate for that).

Yoga has definitely helped with relaxation and easing stiffness, but stopped for a month over Xmas as my teacher was away. Can't wait for it to start again!
