'babymoon' ideas????

this may not be the right place for this but I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for the babymoon period???

DH will be going on a really intensive course in 10 days time and the baby is due just after that ends so I'm looking for good ideas on what we could do together over the next few days to celebrate it being the end of just the two of us?

I'm trying to think of things which are cheap as Xmas and baby preparations havent left us with a lot of spare cash.

Anyone got any good ideas?

Thanks for your help!

Do you mean before or after the baby is born?

I understood 'babymoon' to be when Mum actively decides to do nothing but get to know her new baby - heads to bed with the newborn and ventures no further than the sofa for a week.

I have the same definition as silentboob. But to answer your question, I would go to the cinema! In the evening. And have some long, leisurely meals. In fact, do everything at a leisurely pace and pamper yourselves and each other. All things I miss from the time before my life was dictated by sweet, tiny terrorists.

You could do a mini babymoon at home and spend time doing things the two of you can enjoy that will be harder to do when baby arrives e.g. Trips to cinema/theatre, visiting any small shops with narrow aisles (even for window shopping), visiting local/nearby art galleries or tourist attractions at your own pace, going to your favourite restaurants, or (my favourite) finding a nice nearby pub/bar/cafe with an open fire at this time of year and having a laid back leisurely day with newspapers and magazines.

My husband and I are planning to take a long weekend break somewhere just before travelling becomes too uncomfortable. Have you tried looking on websites like last minute.com to see if there are any good offers about?

InsomniaQueen · 30/12/2011 09:59

Thanks ladies for your suggestions!! I was using the term babymoon for before the baby arrives, that last time when it will be just the two of us.

The short break sounds great - probably my favourite but as we MC'd last time we travelled pregnant DH refuses to let me leave the country until "his daughter has been safely delivered" I was quite put out with this dictate in the beginning but with all my emergency hospital visits and overnight stays for observation I think he is right. Am looking at short breaks in the uk but haven't got a clue where to start!!!!

We're looking for a night at a country pub somewhere - roaring fire, lovely dinner, walks in the local area. And we're hoping to go at 7/8 months, which will be Feb/Mar so pretty chilly! Just a bit of good old quality time. We're also hoping to limit our drive from home to 60/90 minutes. But we can take in much of Yorkshire & Derbyshire with that - as well as a few other places. Britain's great in that regard, isn't it - a place of beauty just around the corner!

I'd suggest checking out Groupon & similar sites. They quite often have good deals.

Good luck!

We recently had a week in a cottage in Cornwall as our baby moon and it was the best thing we could have done! Lots of leisurely strolls, watching films, nice lunches out. Use late rooms, groupon or travel zoo for good deals. Going away doesn't have to be overly expensive-just nice to spend quality time together. It's also good for sussing out where is child friendly for future family holidays!

If you really can't afford a trip away, take a few days holiday at home but agree not to do anything too 'houseworky' and do all the things you enjoy the most while you can x

Travelzoo has good offers for nice hotels in the lakes for a long weekend. We went to Cotswolds 88 when I was five months pg and it was lovely!

stripeyZ · 30/12/2011 22:22

We're in Devon at the mo having a final twosome break. Hired a cottage for a week & it's lovely! Really nice to spend some time together. Definitely worth doing if you can.

Go on groupon.co.uk and get yourselves a nice cheap massage :) half price tea at the ritz and a night in a nice hotel for the price of a skanky brothel Smile groupons great for pampering bargains - or a night or two in a cottage in the country. Last minute and I think it's called buy a gift do things like this as well an they are always cheaper than you would expect.
Xx
