Our mums all ate that stuff (and smoked, and drank Wine) and we're OK. Don't worry, people have done much worse and had healthy babies :)

minceorotherwise · 29/12/2011 19:40

I wouldn't worry. Most people do that in the early stages when they don't realise they are pregnant, and much worse!

lukewarmMulledWhine · 29/12/2011 19:40

No problem - its only good to avoid as these foods give you a higher chance of some types of food poisoning. If you haven't been ill, then it's not a problem. Congratulations!

CrystalQueen · 29/12/2011 19:41

You're probably fine. The risk is to do with food poisoning and you would presumably know if you had that by now.

AlpinePony · 29/12/2011 19:41

Have you ever in your life heard of anyone dying from eating blue cheese or pate? Calm down, you're fine.

suzikettles · 29/12/2011 19:42

If the cheese was going to have made you sick then you'd have been sick by now.

Pate isn't recommended because of possibility of eating too much vitamin A, but you'd have to eat a lot on a regular basis and probably quite a bit of other retinol rich foods too.

Don't worry, congratulations Smile

minceorotherwise · 29/12/2011 19:43

I think you would be hard pushed to find anyone who thinks it would be a problem, if that makes you feel better

kellzi · 29/12/2011 19:43

sympathies. I ate rare meat over christmas and have begged GP for toxoplasmosis test in 3 weeks time (he agreed and said he hopes they will process the blood). Its another thing to worry about, that i've poisoned my baby. If you have no food poisoning symptoms you're probably ok. Listeria is very rare but does have a long incubation period- can be up to 70 days and who has flu symptoms or vomits and thinks back to the pate/cheese they ate 2 months prior? However listeria is extremely rare so try not to worry.

kellzi, I hope you don't mind me leaping onto your thread with a related (and entirely hypothetical Smile ) question. Say for example someone had been really going to town on a Stilton in the last few days, without any ill-effects, and then discovered she was pregnant, would that mean she could continue to trough sample that same stilton without worry? (There's an awful lot left...)

HollyFP · 29/12/2011 19:46

I've eaten bucketloads of Stilton this Christmas and am 20 weeks pg Grin
The man in the cheese shop said it was pasteurised and therefore safe. I was not going another year without Stilton! Angry

You would feel the effects by now if what you'd eaten was bad/off. Relax.

kellzi · 29/12/2011 19:46

What about sashimi , the Japanese must still eat it right?

Stilton is fine...even unpasteurised. The NHS details are above. Have a read through all the other advice on NHS site too. Helps sort old wives' tales from genuine advice.

Congratulations!

KatAndKit · 29/12/2011 19:51

Stilton is not on the NHS list of things to avoid. The NHS website pregnancy section also tells you what sort of sushi is safe to eat.

blackcatsdancing · 29/12/2011 19:52

NB- i recently did a food hygiene course and we covered incubation periods and the difficulty in diagnosing food poisoning due to that.

thisonehasalittlecar · 29/12/2011 19:53

[jumping around cheering] thanks all!

blackcatsdancing · 29/12/2011 19:55

sorry everyone but food poisoning doesn't always have symptoms within a few days!
