...did you ever think "this is too much" and then gone on to be fine? My bleeding's getting worse over the last 24 hours. Having 2nd hcg test tmw but not holding out much hope. I understand how painful it is and I have no intention of upsetting anyone, apologies if I have.

Hi MissC, I bled on and off throughout my first trimester with DS. In fact I was bleeding even as I took my pregnancy test (had IVF so had to check - it was positive). Sometimes the bleeding was just a pink smear when I wiped, but 3 or 4 times I had big heavy bright red gushes (twice with large clots - sorry if TMI). The bleeding stopped at 12 weeks almost to the day.

I am still surprised that things turned out well (DS sleeping upstairs) - although he was born 3 months early.

I hope things settle down for you.

I have bled through three pregnancies.

One was okay, two were lost - the first was lost six weeks after the first bleed, the other lost 14 weeks after the first bleed . That might not be what you want to hear, but there it is.

I'm sorry it's scary. Fingers crossed for you.

I have bled on two of my 4 pregnancies. The first pregnancy in which I bled (4 weeks to 9 weeks) resulted in an 8lb 12 baby (whom I might add is now a strapping two year old Xmas Smile .) The second time is my current pregnancy-I am now at 16 weeks and hopefully things are going well.
I think heavy and clotty is usually (but not always) a bad sign. How far gone are you?

CuppaTeaJanice · 28/12/2011 21:44

Yes, I had a huge bleed the day after my 7 week scan, which felt similar to my mc a few months previously, except this bleed only lasted a few minutes rather than carrying on until I passed out. I felt and heard something drop into the toilet, which I assumed must have been the embryo. Turns out it was just a clot and healthy 8 week old DD is now lying next to me.

It is incredibly scary, but bleeding doesn't necessarily mean it's all over. I hope things will turn out ok for you.

I had a heavy bleed with clots at 13 weeks. It lasted a few hours and was then light for a few days. There was one huge clot (sorry if tmi) and when I saw that I really thought all was lost. But DS was large, overdue and is now a very bouncy healthy 2 year old!
Really hope things turn out well for you.

'bleeding during pregnancy is never normal, but is very common' is what my midwife coworker told me.
I had a fresh red bleed at 15 weeks for 7 days. I was resigned and unbearably sad, and refused to refer to my baby as anything except 'the foetus' for quite a while. 'the foetus' is now a beautiful 14 month old girl Smile

I bled quite a lot during the first trimester when I was pg with DS1. It started at around what would have been the time my period was due (iirc - it was 6 years ago now) so it took me a while to realise it wasn't a period (it wasn't as heavy as a period though). Had an early scan at about 7 weeks when I had realised that I was pg and all was fine.

The bleeding stopped until about week 10 when it started again suddenly and it was moderately heavy and bright red. Obviously I panicked but was reassured that it was just an implantation bleed (apparently the embryo implants itself into the womb around this time) and it stopped within a few days and all was fine - DS1 arrived perfectly healthy 7 months later.

I had no bleeding with DS2 although his 20-week scan did show an echogenic bowel which the consultant said is often due to bleeding during pregnancy which is swallowed by the baby Hmm

Fingers crossed for you that is all ok Smile

I bled in my second last pregnancy. Turned out it was a molar and miscarriage. I then bled loads throughout last pregnancy, and was in and out of hospital all the time. But now have a healthy 1 year old. I really hope everything works out good for you x

Bubbaloo · 28/12/2011 22:01

I bled on and off for the first 20 weeks with ds2,who was born perfectly healthy, nearly 5 years ago.
I'm currently 9+4 and have been bleeding since yesterday.I have a private scan on Tuesday and hoping all is well this time too.
Best of luck with your pregnancy!

yelnats · 28/12/2011 22:10

I bled on and off for 12 weeks of my 2nd pregnancy which sadly ended in mc and then bled for first 14 weeks of my 3rd pregnancy, the result of which is my beautiful, almost 5 year old dd :-)

Each time it was heavy clots.

I hope it works out well for you. I know how worrying it is when your going through it, I know I always thought the worst. Fingers crossed for you Smile x

Thank you all for your replies and crossed fingers, I kind of resigned myself to bad news this evening and took out my mood om the washing-up. At maternity unit tmw for 2nd lot of bloods to determine 48hr hcg, looking like it'll be too early to scan though. A happy outcome would be fab, but I'm not pinning my hopes on it, am already getting my 'not pregnant' head back on. Anything else will be a bonus :) thanks again x

I bleed enough to need a pad, around 8 weeks with both DDs.
One is now taller than me and the other is catching up fast.
Fingers crossed and best wishes, it's very stressful.
