Morning Sickness? Must have been a man who called it that because it's fricking morning noon and night sickness!!!

Has anyone got any ideas on how to handle this as it's totally flooring me. In toilet hugging constantly. I'm off work for Xmas but am going back on the 3rd and can't be running off to the loo every two minutes for the next six weeks.

Ginger biscuits don't work! :(

Depends on how ill you get really. Can you keep water down? If not get to your GP's and they can prescribe something for it. IMO if it's that grim you'll still need a bit of time off work to rest and get your strength back.

FWIW I was floored by MS with my second pregnancy but was back at the gym by about 16 weeks. Those first few weeks were dreadful though, I was on ice cubes for a bit.

I'm in same boat yet I went to my docs as suffered with hg with 2 previous pregnancies even tho I could keep a bit of water down they check your urine for ketones. If ketones show up the can prescribe you some tablets to help. Im still suffering now can't even cook my 2dd dinner and tea luckily I have a very understanding dp! I would still go 2 gp as even if you keep a bit of water down you could still be dehydrated. So my advice is see your gp. X

Oh and I have found sprite has helped me along with a rich tea biscuit before I get out of bed :) ginger biscuits has never worked for me. I've also heard people say travel sickness bands work never tried them myself tho x

Hi OP, you poor thing, I totally feel your pain, I was toilet hugging for so long! How pg are you right now?

Trying to eat something as often as you can seems to help - even if its biscuits or crisps! - as I found my sickness was worse when my stomach was completely empty or my blood sugar was low. But as Danielou says, I'd go and see your GP. There are several different tablets you can try (if you're happy with taking medication) and something is bound to help. It didn't make mine completely go away but it made it more manageable, I was able to eat something most days and keep it down and I didn't have to get signed off work. Even if your ketones aren't too bad then you can still say that it is interfering with your day-to-day life if you think you would need to be signed off.

Good luck, and hope you feel better soon!

Sipping lucozade worked wonders for me but I didn't have it as bad as you, mainly morning and evening for me.

voscar · 28/12/2011 21:04

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm 7 and a bit weeks, so a wee while to go before I get out of the magic 12 weeks (when I hope this passes).

I've tried ginger, water, lucozade, peppermint tea, fresh air, sleep, all sorts of food!! I just can't move without being swamped with nausea and the need to throw up - although only actually vomiting a couple of times a day.

Hi voscar, I completely understand how your feeling. I'm now 10.5 weeks gone and the vomiting started bang on week 7. I couldn't keep down anything, even water. When I first went to the docs she recommend eating and sipping water in very small amounts. It didn't work so I went back a few days later and got prescribed anti sickness tablets and the helped massively. I was then only sick once in the morning and if ever I ate too much in one go, but that's now stopped too.

I was signed off work for the first week and when I explained the reason my male manager was very supportive. I've managed to pick up a cold/throat thing now and its really hard to shift (normally I only get ill for one or two days) so really looking forward to that and the sickness disappearing in the next few weeks : )

So if you are happy taking tablets I'd try and get them off your doc x

voscar · 28/12/2011 21:37

Oh the irony. Since my last post all of 25 minutes ago I've thrown up three times. :(

Voscar I would seriously consider going to docs as you don't want to end up in hospital with dehydration not trying to scare you just being honest I've had anti sickness tablets with all 3 pregnancies and I have 2 healthy dds :) and I'm about 8weeks and have been in these tablets since 6weeks. They really have helped me I still feel sick at the smell of food but I manage 2 keep drinks down. Hope you are feeling better soon I know how your feeling.

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 28/12/2011 22:19

I vomited constantly. Gp was great, medication and rehydration sachets. Maybe worth going, though if not being v sick they may not prescribe...

Xmasbaby11 · 28/12/2011 22:43

Mine was 24h too, although not every day and I wasn't actually sick (just felt v v nauseaous). Nothing worked for me and I tried everything. On a bad day I just ate what I could - usually crackers and sweet drinks or milk.

Since you are actually vomiting a lot, I would seek treatment - it sounds like hyperemesis (spelling?). Good luck - it sucks I know!

Caudy · 29/12/2011 08:11

I have been bad from 8 weeks and its still going at 21 weeks! I have found two things that have really worked for me finally, go get some seasick/ motion sickness bands. I was convinced that they wouldnt work but they really do! They dont stop it all together but it really helps with actually throwing up i have gone from throwing up about 8 times a day to 2 at most. You still gag a little but thats it! The other thing is my nan bought me arrowroot biscuits, i have two of those in the morning and that has helped some more so i am down to one sick a day! Its bliss haha! Hope this helps!

LucindaE · 29/12/2011 18:33

Voscar Sorry to hear you are suffering so. I don't want to alarm you, but do please, make sure you are getting enough fluids, because this sounds like very bad sickness. Buy some kesosticks from the chemists and test your urine, because it's so important not to get dehydrated. If you do become dehydrated then I'm afraid it's Hyperemesis, not ordinary morning sickness. I hope it isn't, but do feel free to come and check the advice on the support thread here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1313856-Hyperemesis-Support.
I know how maddening 'have you tried' is but you have to go for sips of water constantly, even though you think they are all coming up again, some gets through. Ice lollies, jelly, sips of flat coke, Lucozade, nibbles of salty foods like crisps if you can endure any solids at all.
Unfortunately, it sounds like you will need to go to the GP (midwives can't prescrible, I believe) and ask for anti sickness meds as the sooner its tackled, the better the chances of the meds working well, something to do with the workings of the brain, I believe. Don't let yourself be fcbbed of if you can't retain liquids. You are not being a wimp.
I hope this helps.
Lucinda

Hi I had terrible sickness from 7 weeks to 12 weeks. This time around I am 14 weeks now. Found vitamin b 6 tabs def helped. Tried sickness bands and everything but the vits seemed to do the trick. Def less vomiting. Hope you feel better soon

voscar · 30/12/2011 21:56

An update for everyone. The doctor prescribed an anti emetic tablet (promethezine?) and gave me a prescription for a second stronger one if that doesn't work.

He offered to sign me off work If I wanted - which I declined, but he did warn me (like some of you) that if it didn't stop that they would consider admitting me and I need to keep drinking liquids.

Good news is that the today hasn't been too bed, definate improvement. My lovely MIL came over with ice pops today because someone told her they helped. The irony being that by the time they arrived I was sitting eating a cheese toastie!!! Probably looked like is been making up all of my toilet worshipping! :D

Thanks for all of the help and advice. Fingers crossed these tablets work!!

FWIW with both of my pregnancies 7-9 weeks were the worst. I started to (slowly) recover from 10, and stopped tablets at this stage hopefully you will be the same.

Food wise nothing helped at all!

NeedlesCuties · 31/12/2011 10:45

OP - My doctor gave me the same pills as you, have been taking them since Tuesday. At first they worked really well, but now they are starting to not work so well and I'm very upset :(

I keep running to the toilet to throw up but can't bring much up as I haven't been able to eat much recently, but I gag and retch.

I really hope the pills work for you and I understand how miserable you are!
