I am a carrier for an X-linked genetic disorder, giving baby (if a boy) a 50% chance of having it.

I am most likely having a CVS next week, when I will be 12 weeks. I am really hoping to have a transabdominal vs. transcervical but would really like to hear anyone's experiences. Thank you so much.

(I have also posted this in Antenatal tests but have thought higher traffic here)

Hi
I had a CVS done at 10 weeks (am now 37 + 3) - had hoped for it to be transabdominal but due to how the baby was lying/location of the placenta they had to do it transcervical. Mum pointed out that that way was probably less intrusive and therefore slightly better, even though it was really uncomfortable & embarrassing.
The test itself wasn't too bad - not painful or anything, and I was able to watch the ultrasound screen all the way through, so saw the needle and also was able to see the heartbeat all the way through which was lovely!!
Then had to rest for a couple of days, had a bit of spotting, but not much really.
The hardest bit was waiting for the results.
Good luck!!

hello - poor you, not the nicest of things to wait for. I would say the waiting is the scariest bit. I had a trans abdominal back in feb this year and it is slightly painful (no point lying) but having ears/belly button pierced was about the same pain I guess. I had a local beforehand, and the feeling is weird as the needle goes through although I found the thought worse than the discomfort. I was told to wiggle my toes and focus on that and that helped. It is over so fast and I felt fine after. I took things easy, but no spotting or any pain at all after. The waiting for the results is hard, but hey, not alot you can do about that. If i had to have the same test again, I would not hesitate so it can't be that bad as I am a real wimp and have been known to shake and shed a tear when bloods are taken. Try not to worry, it is easy to say and of course you will fret, but just focus on the other side. Good luck, ,hope all works out ok xx

I've had two, without any local, and only felt mild physical discomfort and a strange scratching sensation. However, emotionally it was difficult but i just closed my eyes and counted. I haven't heard anyone who has had a transcervix cvs, though it is obviously a possibility.

I wish you the best of luck.
