Emsgale, i had two friends with long epidural-and-forceps/ventouse deliveries lasting 24hours. Both their second DCs were
Straightforward births taking 4 hours or so, much easier, one had gas and air ony and the other epidural but v straightforward birth. Once it's all stretched up, the second time seems much easier, though not painless!!!

I was wondering this too. My first was 30 hours from first pain. I need someone to travel about 2 hours to look after dd am worried they won't get here in time.

If your first baby was early, was your second too?

Sorry for hijack

robin yes! totally.. not only felt pain in a completely different place but had no idea that the pain didn't have to be continuous. Definitely a better labour!

My first baby was born at 40+1 and my second was born at 39+3.

motherofallhangovers
no they said they had no idea ot did nothing at all I could feel everything and move everything! I had a spinal block in the end but that was after 3 epidural attempts and various doses it!
my midwife said I can go for a anesthetic review closer to my due date to see if there is any reason why it did not work? I dont think it will give me any answers!! x

Mine were very much like a lot listed here...first absolute hell, 10 hours agony so much that syntocin rubbish my body couldn't cope gas and air causing hallucinations epidural never given ended with episiotomy and narrowly avoiding forceps delivery (how they can do that with no proper pain relief given to women I dont know it must be like being ripped apart) Second I was dreading as you can imagine but I do know plenty of people with positive birth stories so I was quietl hopeful that would be me this time. I made it clear in birth plan I only wanted epidural nothing else, when I got there it started very slowly was told could maybe go home but I stayed hubby went off to get some food contractions got wrse by the time he came back and I asked for someone to check me I was 10 cms and ready to push....no time for epidural!! Cue loads of begging from me to please call anaesthetist I wont push I promise! I couldn't ignore the fact the head was right there any longer so 20 mins of pushing later and she was born, with no pain relief what so ever and a damn site less painful than the first. My motto now is unless they are going to give proper pain relief then dont interfere! Being induced is so much more painful than naturaly I think although obviously mine were first and second labours so hard to compare...
