Watery bleeds

Just what I wanted for Christmas, 6 weeks today and after a week of what can only be described as 'brown snotty discharge', this afternoon I've progressed to a very very watery bleed, it's really light and I've got occasional cramps. Is this normal, it's my first time and I'm everso slightly freaking out!! Lost my first one at 9 weeks with a ruptured ectopic...argh! Anyhoo, hope you've all had a fab day - dry- but fab x x

Hoping someone more knowledgable comes along soon....
Did you contact MW or GP earlier in the week? What did they say? Hoping for a good outcome. I know it's scary when you lose a first pregnancy (have been there. Now 2 DC)

Only found out on Tues, confirmed om Friday. Dr wasn't very bothered by the bleeds, she pressed on my tummy and there was no pain. Worried because it's gone from one-off bleeds when I wipe to being more regular but still only when I wipe and still not painful. Back on weds, am in midwife's book but goodness knows when I'll actually see her, will she just ring me? Thanks for replying btw, made me feel better :)

Sorry I didn't get straight back to you. Where are all the midwives....?
In my limited experience all kinds of odd things are normal in pregnancy. Here's hoping if you have no pain then it is nothing to worry about.

imissbrie · 26/12/2011 02:59

I had a similar thing at about the same stage, was told the brown blood was old blood and nothing to worry about. Later I realised I was getting it only after sex so and this happens to some folk in the early weeks. Tell the gp/midwife anyway, they know best :)

MissC36 · 26/12/2011 09:34

Thanks ladies, have developed a 'meh' attitude overnight, whatever's happening can't be controlled by worrying so it's a day tucked up in bed for lots of rest and catching up on sleep :)
Happy Boxing Day x

PS my cousin's a midwife but she's on her hollibobs...otherwise I'd be bugging her all hours of the day :D

Hi MissC36, I had the same thing as you are describing at 6wks - watery blood that actually gushed out when i got out of bed in the morn - and quite bad cramps - but all was fine. Actually have had quite a few bleeds in this pgcy, but each time have been scanned and the baby is fine each time (now 13wks) so I am also getting a bit 'meh' about it!

My midwife says I am probably just a bit of a bleeder! different women's bodies react differently to pregnancy and 6wks is a classic time for early bleeds - I had a brown bleed at 6wks with my first and went on to have a healthy dd with no problems.

FWIW I wouldn't worry too much about brown bleeds. If it's not bright red with clots it's probably nothing to worry about, that's my view anyway! And if it is only showing on wiping, it is not a heavy bleed at all.

However, I would definitely try to get scanned if you can just for reassurance's sake. In my experience it can be a challenge getting seen on the NHS! but once you are past the GP/A&E they are lovely and there is nothing like seeing that little 6wk old heartbeat blipping away on the screen.

Oh yes, also plenty of rest, no exercise, and no shagging ;-)

Bibbo · 26/12/2011 09:54

and esp if you have had a previous ectopic - if you have trouble getting referred by the GP, that is a very good reason to present to A&E IMO and push to get a scan

MissC36 · 26/12/2011 12:45

Bibbo, thank you!! Had another heavy but watery dark red stain when I wiped earlier, every single time terrifies me! Not much pain though, brown snot's stopped now, it's all about the pinky, reddy stuff. If I told you my nearest A+E is Stafford and when my ectopic ruptured they initially sent me home with tablets for IBS, then would it help explain te apathy? Can't believe it's fallen between bank holidays! But thanks for putting my mind at rest, it's helped massively. Have been ordered to bed by the other half, plan to stop there all day :) enjoy your boxing day XX and congrats on your little bump :) xxxx

Hey MissC36, I know it is difficult but you really should push for a scan - they will try to just get rid of you but don't let them! - and if you get any worse pain, or bright red blood, don't hang around, get to A&E pronto! Fingers crossed for you xxx

MissC36 · 26/12/2011 15:55

Thank you, you've been a one-woman lifesaver today! Am taking it ultra-easy (it's soooooooo boring though) and it's just a dull occasional cramp. Other half's digging his heels in a bit, he's just trying to calm me down :)

Hey, I know it can be a stressful time xx let us know how you get on

MissC36 · 27/12/2011 18:17

Been to A+E today, being scanned tmw, terrified...fed up with having scans and seeing nothing there, can't face it again tmw :( but at least it's probs not ectopic :)

Good you have got the scan so quickly (although I know that time can drag whilst waiting) - hope it goes well tomorrow.

MissC36 · 27/12/2011 20:10

Thanks...will be praying for nothing else tonight! X

Good luck for today MissC36 xxx

MissC36 · 28/12/2011 10:24

Argh, frustration alert!! Spoke to lady at hospital, (that'll be a nurse then, Sarah!!) she said my hcg level was only (my word, not hers) 174. So I've got to go back at midday tmw for another blood test to determine if the pregnancy's viable or not. Apparently, that hcg level would be too low to see anything other than a yolk sac. Another day of helplessness and in the meantime the bleeding gets a bit heavier, a bit darker and a bit more frequent. Have officially gone flippin' crazy! X

Bibbo · 29/12/2011 09:28

Oh no what a nightmare :( poor you. Hope you don't have to stay in limbo much longer xx

MissC36 · 29/12/2011 16:15

Hcg gone up by 32%, so back on Saturday for another set of bloods. Still hopeful it's Not ep, sonographer was an old bag who told me she could see nothing which suggested baby had completely miscarried. Nurse said there'd be nothing to see but they wanted to scan anyway. Drat this bloody limbo!! X x

LIG1979 · 29/12/2011 16:29

Sorry you are going through this stress. Good that the HCG is going up though although the waiting game must be horrible. Lets hope they get to the bottom of it on Saturday. I think they should scan on Saturday if it is going up just to see whether they can see anything in the tubes. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.....

MissC36 · 30/12/2011 11:46

Thanks Lig, after the crappy trauma of yesterday's scan, I don't want them to come within a million miles of me!! The room was freezing, the gel was cold and she was very terse. Although it was just her on her own and the place was rammed!! Thanks for the finger crossing too x x hope you're doing well with your little bump :)

LIG1979 · 31/12/2011 09:22

Good luck today MissC - keeping my fingers crossed it all works out today and you get good news. Keep me posted. x

LIG1979 · 31/12/2011 09:28

Just another thought from your cold gel comment - did they no do an internal scan on you? With nhs equipment they often can't see much through an abdominal probe till much later. Also internally, it is much easier to see the ovaries and tubes internally.

When they were checking for remaining product when I had an mc they always used an internal probe and similarly for my 6 week scan this time so they could get a better picture and see if there was a heartbeat.
