So, I'm at my in laws for part of the holidays. They have a little dog and she's been reacting in a really really odd way towards me. She follows me around, keeps on staring at me and just literally seems obsessed with me to the point of growling at DP when he cuddles me. I also went to SIL yesterday and her dog wouldn't leave me alone, she just leaned against me and stayed there.
Can they sense my pregnancy or have am I just looking like dog bait?
Any thoughts?

My dog is glued to my side, especially for last month or so (I am 32+2). She keeps sniffing me intently, particularly my breasts and bump!!! x

Not sure if this counts but my son said to me "Mummy are you getting a baby? Your tummy is getting fat!" a week before I found out I was pregnant.

My cat usually sits near me when I feel ill anyway, but normally a little distance away - end of the bed or on the window ledge. However a few weeks after my BFP I had a migraine and curled up in bed all afternoon; when I woke up & started moving to get up, she shot up the bed to my head and sniffed all over my face before she allowed me to sit up - far more attentive than usual!

Personally, I tend to think she's making sure her food provider is well enough to feed her.

I'm convinced my one of my cats knew before I did! Very strange, protective behaviour. My other cat has been on heat completely out of season thanks to my hormones and first cat will not leave me alone since I started leaking milk. What's worst with the milk thing is that when he comes into cuddle, lying on the bump, back combing my hair, it make me leak even more.

Also my friends dog, little lap dog, will not sit anywhere but on my lap whenever I'm there, also very protective of me.

They know!

When I went to my parent's on holiday I didn't notice any difference in my very very very old cat's behaviour, but saying that she was always very clingy.
I guess that's why I was so surprised with my in laws' dog behaviour, the fact that the dog hadn't seen me in two years also adds to it.
Just out of curiosity... Male or female cats/dogs?

my dog is usual my DH dog but since i've been pregnant he become my best friend. he sat next to me while toilet hugging and he now doesn't like DH cuddling me and tells him off. My dog is 22months and usually quite bouncy but i can sit on the floor with him and he just lays there to have belly rubbed. Amazing how animals can change through what they can sense

Oeisha · 24/12/2011 10:30

One of my furbabies insists I should be in bed ALL the time, and lvoes cuddling up to bump. He took me back to bed this morning and then stood and stared at DH 'til he got up and let him and his bro out (they're shut in overnight).
He gets a bit cross about it if he feels I've been out of bed for too long.
I've been told to look for odd behaviour from my boys...apparently it changes the few days before labour! How on earth will I tell???

MiauMau · 24/12/2011 10:30

horseynewmum definitely! My in laws dog is infamous for being very bouncy (we usually call her the flying rat) but, has been very gentle and very jealous of DP. especially when he touches the bump.

Commutinghell · 24/12/2011 16:27

I haven't noticed any difference with my dogs, I'm quite disappointed because one is like my shadow and I thought he might react after reading that a lot of dogs do. Sad

Sparklesandglitter · 24/12/2011 17:55

My dog is v protective of me when I'm home on my own. I think when DH is here he feels like I'm safer. He nipped the boiler engineer when I was about 12 weeks pg. Luckily the man didn't do anything about getting him put down, thank God. It was entirely my fault - I was talking to the man while holding dog's collar because he was barking frantically and wouldn't shut up (usually he would bark at first and then calm down and lose interest), and I thought he had been carrying on for quite long enough and let go Blush. The man held his hand out to be sniffed and dog nipped his arm - didn't break the skin but gave him an awful fright. At that point I regained my senses, smacked dog and went and locked him in his crate. I am such an idiot - the man was really angry at first but by the time he'd spent about 2 hours fixing the boiler he'd calmed down, and I'd apologised a million times and made him coffee and offered to put whisky in it for shock, and sat chatting with him while he worked to further defuse the situation. Needless to say, when we had to get a plumber out I locked the dog away before opening the door!

Also, dog listens to Bean's heartbeat on the doppler with his head cocked trying to work out where it's coming from - is so cute!
