Going to friends on Boxing Day but son has glandular fever - should I avoid?

Have just found out that the teenage son of the friends we're spending Boxing Day with, came down with glandular fever 2 weeks ago.

I'll be 10 weeks pregnant then - is it safe to be around him? I have never had it.

These friends don't know I'm pregnant and it will look very odd if we cancel.

Thanks for the link but it doesn't actually say if pregnant women should avoid people with glandular fever. Or have I missed a bit?? Confused

It's called the kissing disease so unless in close contact you'll probably be fine. That said though, I personally wouldn't risk it. I had it as a teenager and felt rubbish, let alone when pregnant.

Seriously, I'd avoid.

Sorry, assumed you'd read the causes and symptoms and decide the risk for yourself.

Ring nhs direct? Do a google search?

Crosshair · 22/12/2011 22:07

Just read the link myself and dont think I would risk it either. Sounds very unlikely you would catch it, but the risk of a high fever would put me off chancing it.

Oops Crosshair I didn't see those other tabs. Thanks - looks like a risk that isn't worth taking.
