Hi Ladies
I am 37 +2 I went in for monitoring last week and while I was there they did a doppler scan to measure the blood flow in the cord. They said there was a high resistance between the baby and the placenta. One reading was very high the 2 subsequent ones were better.
I had to have it repeated today and the sonographer was very up beat saying that the reading was perfectly normal, so I left there cheered up and waited for the doctor.
The doctor was not upbeat and talked about bringing my CS forward, very forcefully pushing the point about any reductions in movement to go straight in. CS currently booked for 39 weeks, then went off to get a second opinion from the consultant. Came back and said CS still booked for 39 weeks, come back next week to have the test repeated.
The wording on the notes says "Umbilical doppler displays diastolic flow though out. AB ratio 3.2 on upper limits of normal"

Now I feel like I should have pushed for more information.
What does it mean? google only points towards babies being smaller, where-as the way the doctor was talking it meant a much higher rate of stillibirth.

Many thanks

Hi, I have had 3 of these scans already and am only 28 weeks. Luckily they have all been normal so far. I think at your stage if they were concerned at all they would bring your section forward. I think your results mean that the blood flow is having to work against high resistance to get to the baby but the blood is still getting through ok as even when your blood pressure is at the lowest (diastolic) the baby is still getting a blood flow. It would be more of a worry if the diastolic flow was absent as that would reduce the amount of blood your baby was getting. It would be wise to keep an eye on movements just in case things change but they obviously don't think they will otherwise they would have brought your date forward. Hope this helps, I am no expert, I have just had a few of those scans.

Why not call the hospital and ask for more info - tell them you're really worried and need some reassurance.

Thanks for your replies .
Ciwi what you just said about the flow clarifies what the doctor said when I asked if this meant the baby was getting less oxygen. She said the flow was fine.

I have been keeping a very close eye on movements and writing down the patterns they go in. So I can look back on them over the week and ensure the pattern stays the same.
I guess by starting this thread I was hoping to find other people with the same thing so I could compare our readings are and what they were being told. To re-assure me that its ok.
