Worried over fluid levels

Have had 4 growth scans over the last 6 weeks due to suspected large baby and one of their concerns has been high fluid levels. Went for a growth scan today and fluid levels have more than halved and are now well within normal range. All well and good you'd think.

Except yesterday morning I woke with my nethers soaking wet, it was running down my legs when I got up, then stopped. Went in to be checked and was told it probably wasn't waters, more like wee. I wasn't convinced but hey, they're the experts right?

I think it's too much of a coincidence that fluid was reduced so much this week and am concerned about risk of infection if there had been an issue but consultant and mw I saw today weren't bothered. I'm seeing someone tomorrow and will raise it again but am I right to be concerned? It's really worrying me. Am 38 weeks btw.

The problem with checking fluid levels on scans is that it's apparently like looking at a puddle, through a periscope, from a very long way away. In the dark (can't remember where I heard that, but I suppose it makes sense) so it can be very difficult to have an accurate idea of what's there.

The level of fluid can fluctuate anyway, as you've discovered. If the consultant and MW weren't bothered, I wouldn't worry too much - if it starts again I'd personally stick a pad on and then go back to be checked again.

However, you're now full term (hooray) so if labour starts then you'll be good to go Xmas Grin

Thanks fliss. :) I just need someone to tell it to me straight. I honestly think I have the least informative, most monosyllabic obstetric team in the country!

I'm sure the analogy was from one of the mums on the Yahoo homebirth group - I'm not a medical professional on any way so I'll finish with my usual caveat of any problems then please phone your MW (but having seen your previous posts I think you're sensible enough not to need me to say that) Wink
