4 weeks pregnant & accidentally broken most rules about what not to do when pregnant

My fiancé and I have been TTC since January and today I pee'd on a stick and got a BFP. My calculation is I'm 4 weeks gone (fiancé worked away from home most of the month so I can be VERY precise on date of conception...Wink)

Joy.

Now my worry is that I've just spent the last 2 hours since POAS realising how many of the DON'T DO THIS WHEN PREGNANT rules I've already broken without realising:

  1. I did my first ever session of hot bikram yoga yesterday (that's where you do yoga in 40 degree heat)...
  2. Booze... it's the run up to Christmas, what can I say, I've had quite a lot...
  3. Gooey cheese - last night in a French restaurant with a bootle of plonk...
  4. Runny eggs - almost twice a week...

I'm worried about number 1 more than anything else, does anyone know if I've possibly done any harm to my baby?

I'm going to try very hard not to stress on the above, whilst it makes me sound like a bad parent already I should mention the fact that I gave up caffeine and nicotine at the beginning of the year so I could have done a lot worse I suppose.

Please don't worry about it, as its not even a full bunch of cells in the first 4 weeks so you can't do much damage. Enjoy the pregnancy

ScrummyYummyMummy · 21/12/2011 18:18

The bottom line is that you can't do anything about it now. Just try to stick by the rules as best you can now you know. If it's any help, I got really pretty drunk before realising I was pg with DD and the same with this pg. GP didn't seem all that bothered as long as I was being cautions from then on in either case.

Don't know anything about the hot yoga though. Sounds interesting though!

Seriously, don't worry. If you are 4 weeks then 2 weeks of those were before you even ovulated since it goes from your last period. So you have only actually had a fertilised egg in you for 2 weeks. For some of that time it was not even implanted yet. You honestly will not have done any damage at all.

RitaMorgan · 21/12/2011 18:18

Don't worry. The embryo isn't sharing your blood supply at the moment so booze isn't a problem. If you'd have got salmonella or listeria from the food you'd know about it by now anyway! And the heat is more of an issue for you than the baby - if you didn't faint or anything then you're fine.

I'm 18 weeks pregnant now and in the first 5 weeks before I found out I
Went on the sunbed about 10 times
Went to magaluf for my very boozy hen weekend
Whilst on this weekend I had 2 x tattoos
I went in a jacuzzi
Ate probably everything i shouldn't

I panicked big time when I found out I was pg the doctor said most people conceive when they are drunk and some people don't find out for months !
I wouldnt worry.. :-) good luck

An awful lot of people commit cardinal pregnancy sins in the first few weeks before they know

I for one went to Glastonbury for our 'last big blow out before settling down and becoming grown ups' Well you can imagine I've been watching Ds very closely since, but apart from an obsession with the moon he seems ok (so far)

Oh and no one told me about the no hot baths rule until I was 8 months into my second pregnancy. Having lived in an unheated house where scalding baths were the only comfort through the cold months

Really, don't worry

People must be pregnant in countries where it's 40 degrees in summer and survive, so I'd try not to worry too much.

Also when I found out I was pregnant I went to the doctor and said something like 'CHEESE wibble wibble wibble WINE wibble wibble SMELLY CHEESE wibble wibble PINTS OF WINE wibble' and he laughed at me (in a nice way) and said not to worry, no damage would have been done (which it wasn't).

LubblyJubbly · 21/12/2011 18:39

PHEW! Thanks everyone for the reassuring words. Obviously I'm going to stop doing the list of things I did wrong from this moment on!

Much relieved - Thanks.

I think, from what I've ready on my pregnancy App, that it's not until about 6 weeks that the baby starts taking nutrients etc.. from you, so I think you'll be fine (as everyone else has said..). :)

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't know you couldn't eat runny eggs.. Xmas Blush, I'm 8 weeks on Sunday and have had them every saturday, so far - Doh!!!

I found out when I was 4 weeks, and the last 4 weeks have been a rollercoaster, this is my first one too.. :D
Good luck for the journey ahead.
x

Before I knew I was pregnant with my first I was drinking lots and even went to Alton towers lol - I'm sure that's why he's crazy :-)

RobinSparkles · 21/12/2011 23:20

I think runny eggs are ok if they have the lion stamp - means the chickens are vaccinated against salmonella (or something like that, I'm no expert).

You'll be fine! Congratulations, have a wonderful pregnancy! Smile

Rhinestone · 22/12/2011 00:13

DOn't worry, just start doing all the good things from now on, e.g. taking folic acid.

And congrats!

PickleSarnie · 22/12/2011 02:22

Most babies wouldn't even have been conceived if it wasn't for large quantities of alcohol!!

AlpinePony · 22/12/2011 05:23

You CAN eat runny eggs as long as they're lion-stamped.

You can crack the shells open and eat them raw if you want to. [boke]

itchyfootedlady · 22/12/2011 07:51

Everyone I know who is pregnant has been the same as you. one girl went to the docs thinking she'd given herself liver damage drinking last new year only to discover she was 6 week pg. And with most of the recommended foods to avoid its more guideline than rule! If you're suffering from ms at any point soon you'll be off pretty much anything you're not supposed to eat anyway.... even the smell of coffee or wine still makes me pukey :(
