Lab urine pregnancy test?

This is probably a really stupid question but I'm confused so i'd appreciate some help!

I've missed two periods now, had all sorts of symptoms (sore boobs, nausea, etc) and quite a few negative HPTs. I went to my GP on Friday, told her about everything and she sent off a urine pregnancy test...I was expecting a blood test as I'd already had so many negative tests and I've read that if anything the home tests are more sensitive for testing HCG.

Has anyone had negative home tests but a positive lab urine test? Are they more sensitive or is there something else that makes them more accurate?
I'm a bit baffled as to where my periods have gone if I'm not pregnant Grin

I guess that if this is negative I should ask for a blood test, or should I just give up with thinking its pregnancy related? Gawd what a mindfuck this is!

Oops, forgot to say the reason I'm confused - I've gone to my GP with pregnancy symptoms before and she did a urine test right there and then which was exactly the same as the home ones. So if it's no different I'm wondering why I have to wait until Wednesday for the results...

They have to cover everything before they put in for a blood test. The lab tests are done differently AFAIK.

I would insist on a blood test if this is BFN but you will probably have to be very insistent to get one. I have to go through this every time I think I might be pregnant as none of the urine tests work for me.

Ah, I see. Well that makes sense, I suppose although I'd jump to this conclusion a medical professional has to see the whole picture Grin

It's interesting that the urine tests don't work for everyone, from what I've read it's a lot more common than you'd think. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Wednesday but I will try and get them to do a blood test if it's negative juuust in case

It's not just to see the whole picture. It's also to do with the expense of the blood test which is why you may have to push quite hard for the blood test.
