Insomnia! Is there anything that helps?

I'm only 12 weeks and have had insomnia since I found out. I think it starts with waking up to wee. I'm awake every night from 2-4am at least. Then DD is usually awake from 6am. Any tips to help at all?

The only thing I found to help was to go to bed later rather than earlier. I also had sleeping tables on a couple of occasions when I was desperate. Many sympathies, it's awful.

i too found this to be my first symptom and it sucks!
dilly did you mention this on a previous thread, because after reading the suggestion, i also found that going to bed a bit later (regardless of the fact i can barely keep my eyes open past 8pm), does help. i now wake up at 5.30 rather than lie awake between 2-4am

I already go to bed late, but toss and turn and can't drift off. Then wake about 5am for a wee and awake for an hour. Grateful that I don't have a child already to wake me up any earlier than I need to be for work.

I'm wondering whether getting some more exercise in will help - been too nauseous and knackered til now, but figured it may help?

Have you tried eating something right before you go to bed. I've found throughout the whole of my pregnancy that I have to have a small snack before I sleep or I wake up in the middle of the night. When I had morning sickness it was just some oat cakes and a handful of nuts, now I absolutely have to have a bowl of shreddies.

Maybe I should try later then. I'm just so exhausted from the lack of sleep that I'm happy to go to bed as early as I can. I'll try later then if I can find something good to watch! Will also try a bowl of cereal now the sickness seems to be abating. Thanks.

I have mentioned this before, possibly under a different name. I discovered it by accident. I'm not sure you actually get much more sleep, but it feels like better sleep and less depressing than being up at 3am.

belindarose · 19/12/2011 19:29

How late are we talking here? I've been asleep by about 9.30 for about 2 weeks! Especially when DH is working. But then I wake when he gets home for about an hour, and then again at 2am. The world service is always full of really depressing stuff at that time of night as well, which doesn't help!

I used to stay up till about 11.30-12. I saw the same idea on BBC documentary on sleep.

If it does get unmanageable then sleeping tablets from your gp can give you a few nights respite.
