Hi Melsy
I didn't use one first time around (thought they looked hideous!) but bought one this time around and it was definitely very useful for that 'in-between' stage when you're too big for your normal clothes and too small for maternity. I still use it 22 weeks in.
Be warned though, you do need v.long tops to go over them (so normal maternity tops are fine) and the panels can look a bit bulky so you need to take time to smooth them out!!!
I remember there were some posts about this some time back (October / Nov) so maybe search the archives too.

pesme · 11/01/2006 08:16

it is just annoying. i did use the smallest one while i could just about zip up my trousers but after that it is just like walking round with your fly undone. just go to h&m and stock up on some cheapy maternity trousers.

harpsichordcarrier · 11/01/2006 08:19

no bloody annoying and pointless imho. pesme's description is spot on.
never wore it at all but maybe that is just it didn't work with my wardrobe IYSWIM
you can have mine for postage if you want it....

cathyspam · 11/01/2006 08:22

bought one and never used it!

cathyspam · 11/01/2006 08:23

agree with pesme and harpsi!

LOOMER · 11/01/2006 09:14

I found it useful during early stages of 'swelling', just to expand the waist of my jeans by an inch or so, but any bigger than that and the whole thing becomes a waste of time, since the elastic just slips down your belly, and you end up with the waist around your hips, and the bulk of the cloth panels bulging out like your knickers are trying to escape - not a good look.

Not to mention the number of times people said to me "Your flies are undone"!!

Best off (and much cheaper) making your own version with a short length of elastic and a couple of safety pins I decided. Unfortunately those of us with strange leg lengths ( ie. freakishly long) don't have the option of stocking up on cheap maternity trousers from H&M )...

Nemo1977 · 11/01/2006 09:16

hi i used this for both my pregnancies but only ever used the first one as beyond that i just moved into maternity clothes.

slinkstah · 11/01/2006 10:16

freakishly long leg maternity wear can be found in topshop. 36 inches! if your longer than that then yes your freaky

mrspitt · 11/01/2006 11:18

The word CRAP and waste of bloody money spring to mind! Don't do it. I would use an elastic band and its cheaper. Ok for earlt stages when things start to feel tight but otherwise don't do it.

Enid · 11/01/2006 11:18

god no

use a hair bobble like normal people

JIFDA · 11/01/2006 13:13

I brought 1 used it once & it all felt a bit strange so I havent used it since!!! wouldnt recommend anyone buying one!

hoolagirl · 11/01/2006 15:05

Can i just add that freakishly long leg maternity wear is on sale at the mo in LTS

melsy · 27/01/2006 11:18

harpsichordcarrier is that offer of p&p for them still good? Im having a mare , all my maternity stuff is WAY to huge, even size 10 , but the bump is now proving to make me VVV uncomfortable in normal jeans. Im loathe to buy size 8 maternity what a waste as may only be for a few mths.

What would P&P be , should I cat you ?

I agree, it seems like you forgot to zip your trousers when you wear one of those. I bought the kit when I was pg with my dd and it was hideous so I dug out all my baggy tops and wore them over it so everyone would stop pointing out at my unzipped jeans! Also, the one I used the most broke after couple of months (!?) - luckily it was time for maternity jeans so I didn't really care anymore.

fairydust · 27/01/2006 21:23
