Don't know if i should be getting worried or not. I figured there was still loads of time for baby to turn, but midwife has got me stressing!
Been in so much pain for weeks now just under ribs on right side, and back pain. saw midwife today who said that the pain in my ribs is from baby's head pressing into them and he's also back to back, which is causing back pain. (awkward sod).
Apparently he's quite a big boy, and i'm small (not a good combo). Midwife has booked me in for a scan to check his hips and type of breech. then she started talking to me about booking in to try to turn the baby if he's still breech at next app (29th Dec, so will only be 33+3)
Just wanted to know if this is normal procedure considering there's still time?
Any advice/ experience would be great. Thanks. xx

hey
my sis in laws baby was breech but turnt at 38 weeks she refused having the baby turn.as it can be quite risky ehen her daughter was born she had a short cord around her neck due,to turning she was perfectly fine but they said if they had turnt her its likley they would have caused baby distress and may have had to go for a c section maybe do some googling?

Hi! My DS was pointing down right on schedule towards the end but then suddenly breech . I did the Moxibustion ( didn't do a thing except felt like burning my little toe) and the all fours on the bed which made him definitely try to turn but It felt like he didn't have room. So I ended up doing the ecv which was a bit scary and to be honest did hurt but worked on the second go . The ironic thing is that for other reasons ( failed induction ) I ended with an emcs anyway which is what I was trying to avoid by having the baby turned. I was very poorly after the emcs , lost a lot of blood and had the worse pain of my life even though there were no serious complications. I have heard that people who have had elcs have faired much better.

Oh yes also Bf failed after DS lost 20-25% weight in the first week and I ended up with a horrible mastitis . So all of that was like an icing on the cake for a horrible pregnancy of 8 1/2 m of nausea ... But DS was a healthy 10 point baby and now a beautiful clever 7 y charmer :)!

My ds was breech until week 37 when he finally turned. I had a scan at week 37 to double check. We all thought he was going to be huge as my bump was enormous and I'm very petite but he was only 7.1 lbs at birth - he's made up for it since though!

There's still plenty of time for them to turn, so don't worry too much

I got scanned at 30 weeks and told that if it was still breech by 34 weeks that they'd send me to hospital to get it turned. I did so much worrying in those weeks.

At 34+3 I was scanned again and baby had turned. I hadn't felt any big flip before then so was happily surprised.

There is still time for your baby to turn and worrying you about it at this early stage is a bit premature. It sounds like you've a dramatic midwife like mine. She just loves telling me the worst scenarios. She had me thinking at 8 weeks that I'd miscarried. Then that I was perfect for Gestational diabetes at 20 weeks. I try to filter out her drama now.

Spinningbabies.com is a good site for info on breech babies.

Thanks so much for your replies. I didn't think there was too much to worry about this early. I'll carry on as normal for now and wait to see what happens. I am in UK, think my midwife is just slightly crazy. Its great that she's so thorough, just can be a bit worrying at times.
nordicmom that sounds awful, sorry things went so bad for you.
I'm spending a lot of time on all fours, much to the amusement of DP, my DD thinks I'm pretending to be a horse and keeps trying to climb on my back!
Don't think I like the sound of the pain involved with an ECV, so if it comes to it, may give that a miss. (I'm such a chicken)
Preparing myself for a c section just in case all else fails, which I'm actually not too bothered about labour was horrible last time so I'm not looking forward to it again. not only that, I live in the middle of nowhere so having an actual date for arrival would be quite useful!
I guess I'll know he's turned when this ridiculous rib pain stops!
Thanks again for all your comments and advice. really appreciate it. Xx

Bouncing on a birthing ball, swimming and not lying back on the sofa sitting slightly tilted forward (so backwards on a chair) are all suppoed to help. As does sleeping on your left (enouraging baby not to be a star-gazer).
Again, I wouldn't worry. My LO's flipping about allover still at 35wks. She was breech at 32wks, oblique at 34wks and slightly oblique now, but lordy knows, I think she's mutated into a octo-girraffe). They've said they won't touch me 'til 37wks...as frankly they still have room (even if it is HUGELY uncomfrotable and slightly painful when she flips about).
SIL was happily 2/5 engaged at 36wks...37+4wks her first decided to switch to transverse...and ended in a ELCS the next day, so there are no gurantees!

my baby was breech right up until 32 weeks then suddenly turned one night actually felt/saw his turning over a few hours was quite sore and felt like i was going to burst but he is now the right way round, my MW said they wouldn't do anything until 36 weeks if he hadn't turned but maybe it's cause your in pain they doing you sooner?
