Got a feeling i'm going to be asking a few stupid questions like this over the next 7 & half months!

I wish I'd asked more, ask loads, think people love sharing their experiences too. Do remember weeing in lots of plastic jars at the doctor's to test for protein etc in the blood. But there are lots of lovely things, first heartbeat, scan ... enjoy.

LOL! I was paranoid at my nuchal scan that they'd discover I wasn't really pregnant and had made it all up. I couldn't believe my GP simply believed me when I said I was pregnant and didn't give me a test of his own. In fact, I thought it was true since when they started the scan, the screen didn't show a baby at all - it was just because the machine was clearing the previous picture.

Congratulations, Jemma.

My doctor did another test - I guess they didn't believe me. Stupid teenager and all that

Congratulations Jemma

congrats jemma7 - there are no stupid questions when it comes to pregnancy! Like soupdragon I couldn't believe the doctor just accepted my word that I was pregnant.

Ghosty · 07/11/2003 21:56

lol jemma ... I was just the same ...
When I went to docs the first time I said, "I have done a test and it is positive. I think I am pregnant."
My doctor literally said, "Congratulations! ... here's a form for your 12 week scan ... Come back after that ... NEXT!"
I was really shocked ... I was expecting him to do a test accompanied by a trumpet fanfare!!!!

Congratulations on your pregnancy BTW ...

PS ... not saying your doctor will be like that ... mine was a bit brusque to say the least!

coppertop · 07/11/2003 22:03

When I saw the doctor and told her that the home test was positive, she said, "We still have to do a lab test - but they usually get it wrong, so if it comes back negative we'll just call it positive." Clear as mud.....

eidsvold · 08/11/2003 08:23

mine did another test - wee sample sent to the local hospital - funny now I think about it ans I had already done it twice at home..but we found out Christmas Eve from the hospital test for sure...

ask away and read all you can..... I found that helpful ... my midwife was brilliant too.

Mine did another test which I think they sent to the hospital, but then never mentioned again. It seems that docs never tell you about test results unless something is wrong/unexpected. Since for some reason I didn't really believe I was pregnant I asked the midwife about the results when she came round for the initial appointment--she assured me I would never have made it onto her list if I wasn't ...

I did repeat tests at home before my first few appointments everywhere - GP/8 week scan etc., just to reassure myself that I wasn't going mad and was indeed pregnant! Didn't really believe it myself until I had the 8 week scan though - was almost just as surprised as if I didn't know..!
