Should I be booking stuff?

Hiya I'm 20+1 with my first and according to a pregnancy app that I have I should be registering at my hospital of choice and booking antenatal classes this week.
To be honest I assumed I'd be doing that stuff with my midwife who I havnt seen for 4 weeks and won't be seeing for another 4.
Should i wait to my 24 week appointment with her?
I guess registering with the hospital is just a case of calling them up?
How do I book antenatal classes though? And when should I be starting them?

And if there is anything else I should be doing or booking around the 20 week Mark please let me no.

Thank you
Hayley x

I think its different in different areas, but here you dont need to register with the hospital, the mw does it for you i think.. (Im 32 weeks with DC2 and never had to do that) and with the antenatal classes i just got a letter through the door last week with the times etc for me to go and i never registered for that so im assuming the mw did that too! Id wait til your next appointment and ask then, theres no rush and you dont usually get offered antenatal classes til the last trimester anyway :)

your 'booking in' appointment gets you registered at the hospital so you will already be registered if you've seen a midwife.
I asked about antenatal classes at my 28 week appointment (I think) and they booked me in for classes starting at 35 weeks. it just depends how often they do them where you are. but I think it would be fine to just ask at your 24 week appointment. certainly no need to be doing anything sooner.
my advice is to relax and enjoy the middle part of your pregnancy before you start getting massive Xmas Wink

Is your MW from a particular hospital? If so, you are probably registered with that hospital, it should also be the one where you have had your scans.

As for the Antenatal Classes you could always look online or phone up to see what the local hospitals offer as it varies wildly in our local hospitals. Once you know what the NHS has to offer you could also look into the NCT Antenatal Courses.

Your app sounds a bit out if I'm honest though. Most women book their hospital at their booking appointment with the MW and antenatal classes can be booked from your first scan. You might find signing up for these emails {on the righthand side of the screen) more helpful.

There are a couple of website that can help you decide where to give birth too, here and here.

justbig are there any antenatal classes that you could go to that started earlier, only asking as I had DC1 at 38+1 Xmas Smile.

I had to call the hospital at about 20 weeks to book NHS antenatal classes that didn't start til 32 weeks due to high demand and limited space so depending
On your area I wouldn't want to wait

CurlyhairedAssassin · 11/12/2011 11:33

Don't they do the 20 week scan anymore?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 11/12/2011 11:36

Curly think it depends on your area.

JJJ it's ok, am now 39 weeks and have done the classes, although was a bit concerned when I heard how late they were!!
