Got DD's head out perfectly, but waters were not breaking, and that contributed to slight tear (which i didn't realise) what are the chances of this happening again?

Contributing factors (big baby, small frame, fast labour and bulging waters (grr) )

Dc1- massive baby, unexpected home birth, = horrific tears inside and outside which needed a week in hospital

Dc2- smaller baby but 3 wks earlier than dc1 also at home and not a stretch needed just a very very slight tear which healed by itself

Have had a third and that fell in the middle of the above two so I really think it doesn't matter.

Good luck

  • not a stitch needed

I had a second degree tear with dd (on bed, feet in stirrups, epidural) and was stitched, which wasnt particularly painful and healed up fine.

2.7 years later I had HUGE ds and tore slightly again which once again required stitching.

I think I would probably have torn worse with ds if I had been on a bed and not in the most lovely relaxing birthpool which helped stretch me out a bit

I tore with my 1st and not with my 2nd, and the 2nd was bigger and born by forceps, so it doesn't follow that you'll tear again. Good luck.x

I had a 2nd degree tear with DC1 but apparently it was looking good with DC2 (bigger, faster labour) until he came out with his hand on his face. So another 2nd degree tear!! Grrrr! I don't think there's any rhyme or reason :)
