I know I probably shouldn't torture myself by watching these programmes, but, strangely enough, they tend to comfort me. Like most women, I am a tad scared of the whole labour thing and I've seen quite a few "nice" births that have made me relax a little.
Anyhoo, there was a little 19 year old girl on it today. She had been in hospital for days and had went through 4 failed inductions. The consultant and midwives said that they could attempt induction one more time or perform a CS. The poor girl was knackered and decided to go for the CS instead of waiting another 24 hours to see if a 5th induction would work. The consultant then proceeded to try and talk her out of it, and the midwife commented "I really don't think having a CS JUST because SHE doesn't want to wait any longer is good reason for major surgery". Now, I understand the reasons for and against CS's, however, to be so judgemental of a woman who had given it her best shot and was now doing what she felt was best
for her and the baby. She had went through failed induction 4 times for christ's sake. It's not as if she just walked in and demanded a CS because she just couldn't be bothered.

Is it me?

Why had she been induced? If it was purely for being overdue then tbh it was probably their fault she was so exhausted. It's the one thing I really regret about dd's birth, I agreed to an induction for no reason besides being 10 days over and it took ages to work properly. I do think a CS is a last resort in that situation, but if she was so exhausted and they'd offered her one, the choice was hers. I don't watch these programmes tbh as it frustrates me seeing so many women being made to deliver on their backs. If you want some positive stories, get Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. Great book.

I don't actually know the reason she was induced as I missed the start of prog. I just got really pissed off with the way they were talking to her. When she was in for the CS, she bubbled a little bit because she was scared of needles, but she was by no means being a drama queen. Anyway, one of the surgical staff said, "Come on, there is no need for you to be like this!". I tell you, if anyone speaks to me like that during labour or CS, there is a fair chance I'll want to punch their lights out. :) To my mind, there is no need to speak like that if you are a professional and dealing with people who are probably going through one of the most frightening experiences of their lives.

What would make me most livid is that they offered a choice of a 5th induction attempt or a CS. And then when she took the offered choice or a CS they gave her lots of grief. If they didn't think the circumstances warranted a CS, why did they offer it? If they had information to contra-indicate a CS at this time for this mum, why only give her that information after asking her which she'd preferred? All seems very bizarre and unnecessary Confused

My thoughts exactly!

Agree with Tangle. Do you ming if I ask where / how you watched it?

Not sure that I'd watch it as so many things get me irritated at the moment but what channel is this on?
