Hi, my ds fell sideways and I think he sort of elbowed me in my lower abdomen (around the place where I normally feel ovulation pain). I am 14 weeks with slight bump. At the time it really hurt for a while, then pain eased off but returned in waves, lasting about 30 mins. Now, about 5 hours later, I am getting quite sharp stabbing type pains where it happened. No other symptoms. Not sure whether to contact midwife? Even if I did don't think there's anything they could do? Thank you.

Hi, I'm sure everything is fine and the pain you are feeling is just normal tummy stretching pain made worse because of your anxiety. Call your midwife and get to the hospital if you can to have it checked out. That's what it's there for.
Keep us posted, thinking of you v hard.

smk84 Please don't hesitate to ring your midwife, if it feels unusual or painful you have every right to seek an opinion as to whether it might be something to worry about. you will not be wasting anyones time it is what they are there for, they may sufficiently reassure you (and tell you in more detail what to look out for if there's a problem) or tell you to come in for an examination.

really hope everything works out well x

thank you harried and joy. I phoned the MW at the labour ward, and she told me it probably hadn't done any damage (as there isn't much above the pelvis yet) but that she couldn't be sure it hadn't. She was quite short and matter of fact, so only feel slightly reassured. She said to take painkillers and rest, and that there was nothing more that could be done. I haven't taken anything because it's not that bad, plus I want to feel the pain to know if it's getting better or worse. Why on earth would you want to mask it? The pain has continued, but rather than being stabbing type pains it is now more a dull ache which sometimes becomes quite a strong ache. Still a bit worried :(

Cld you go to your early pregnancy unit at your local hospital? (i.e. is there someone who could mind your son - since it can take hours of waiting there) If so, do go there and just have it checked out. Just for reassurance if nothing else. I was there several times for my last pregnancy... Good luck.

thanks zumm, not sure we have one here out of hours. on my notes it says the emergency contact number, which is the delivery suite which is where i phoned earlier.

How's it going now? While it is true that nothing can be done, and that the likelihood is that all is hunky dory, after all those little critters inside are quite resilient, if you are still worried and in pain you should call the hospital again and insist on being seen.
The feeling you describe does remind me of the growing pains I had around that time.

smk84 · 12/12/2011 10:30

Thanks Harried. Pain was easing off yesterday, and haven't felt anything today, so am starting to feel a bit better about it. I did have some mild cramping feelings across my whole abdomen yesterday but think they were probably growing pains as they reminded me of feelings I had with my ds. Will see how it goes today and if I get any more pains will ring MW.

My goodness, SMK you can only be the SMK I know! I don't often stray from Hyperemesis but am posting to give belated symapthies and cyber hugs.
If it's any comfort, I knew a woman who was standing on a chair, putting in a lightbulb (not with any Calafornians) and she slipped and fell on the chair on her belly and was terribly bruised, but the baby was fine. I think particularly early on, the chances of its doing any harm are very slight, but what a worrying thing to happen, and I do think the midwife you spoke to could have been more reassuring. How are things now?

zumm · 12/12/2011 12:32

Hi SMK - glad you feel better now. As for Lucinda's comment - I remember slipping in the snow around 18 weeks (I didn't follow it up since was more my backside and honour that was bruised ;) - and all absolutely fine. As you know the Big Thing is if you ever bleed - then just ring any and all emergency numbers and have it looked into pronto - good luck!

smk have you been ok? please let us know how you are x

Thanks everyone. Pain where he fell seems to have eased, and I am getting mini cramps all over my lower abdomen from time to time. Still feeling like these are just growing/stretching pains. I bought a fetal heart monitor which arrived today and I could hear the heartbeat so really enjoyed that :)
