Sorry but I just feel the need for a little rant about how much I hate maternity clothes!!!!....

I find the "under the bump" stuff poorly fitting & uncomfortable, but the "over the bump" jeans & trousers all seem to feel like they are going to fall down because they feel too loose!! I have just walked about half a mile home from Tescos with shopping & had to stop 3 times to very unlady like pull my trousers up as they were riding down taking my knickers with them as I walked!!!

I feel at the moment I am always adjusting myself & feel frumpy & uncomfortable, I have 9 weeks to go & was hoping to wait right to the end til I got to the I don't care what I looked like as long as Im comfy stage but I honestly can't see it being long before I live in my leggings or yoga pants!!!

Ok rant over!!!

I know how you feel. I'm 32+4 and neither under-bump nor over-bump jeans stay up on me. The other day I started wearing a bump support band over the jeans waistband and that seems to keep things in place. It does get a bit uncomfortable when I'm sitting at my desk at work all day though.

Roll on maternity leave when I can wear leggings and yoga pants at home all day and not care! Grin

I just roll the bump pannel over a belt, keeps them up for me.

NorthernGirlie · 09/12/2011 14:40

Argh - I sooo hear you!! I can't find any jeans for short legs (except on Next website but cuoldn't be bothered to wait 3 WEEKS for delivery!!)

Bought underbump ones (and folded up the legs)- ridiculously uncomfy and feel like I want to pull them up all the time. Bought over-bump ones and they're HUGE - Next seem to have gotten very generous!

precariouslybalanced · 09/12/2011 16:20

Under the bump stuff ends up digging into my bladder, over the bump stuff makes me feel fat, frumpy and bulbous. I hate, hate, hate all my clothes and the way I look at the moment, and that's without going into the gazillion other physical downsides! I am 100% with you!

Mikocat · 09/12/2011 16:38

I wholeheartedly agree!

I am wearing dresses with woolly tights a lot at the moment because of the aforementioned trouser problems, the one pair of work trousers I have look like a pair of windsocks - they are huge!

Northerngirly - the Next short jeans are nice, although I find they are still a bit long for me! New Look also do maternity jeans in a 28" leg (although I find they come up a bit small, I bought a 12 (my normal size) and wish I'd got a 14! The Next jeans I have are 'under-bump' and I do find that I'm tugging them up all the time though.

Same here, over bump ones are uncomfortable and make me feel sick, under bump fall down and dig in when you sit down.

Maternity leggings with either tunic tops or dresses are my preferred wear. Tights fall down too.

I am a short-arse, so as with all trousers I had to take up and hem my maternity jeans and trousers.

As soon as I get in the door I change into my pyjama bottoms!

Took me months to find a maternity coat that was warm enough and didn't cost loads as all the ones I wanted sold out, couldn't do up my coats anymore and was freezing. At least I can now be warm, thank you SuriAjuni Grin

i've got some black ones - more trousers than jeans - Top shop Leigh that are comfy and don't fall down. Also Seraphine ones that are good but quite pricey so if you're down to the last few weeks may not be worth it.
Otherwise I reiterate wooly tights & dress or leggings & dress/skirt. Bought some M&S tights in large yesterday (am normally a small) & they go very snuglly over bump.

I've been wearing a pair of DH's braces since the 4th month Blush

I have found a pair of Isabella Oliver trousers on eBay which I love, they are loose fitting, over the bump and very comfortable.

BelleRomford74 · 09/12/2011 17:40

:o loving the braces idea!!! Rock on Tommy!!! for anyone old enough to remember Cannon & Ball!!! lol

I'm with you! I bought some black cords from next (just about smart enough for work) and if I sit down for too long they feel like they're going to cut me in half. Not comfy Sad.

I want to live in my pjs at the moment

roseum · 09/12/2011 21:49

I nicked DH's braces too! But mainly have been wearing maternity (and non-maternity empire line pre-pg dresses) with maternity tights. Am 34 wks, so not long now!!! Have also found that an old pair of my (non-maternity) tracksuit bottoms fit to mid-bump without being uncomfortable. Haven't bothered buying any maternity trousers, bar one pair that I actually wear as pyjama bottoms (they are very light and too cold to wear as trousers). The dresses I got came from Seraphine and JoJo Maman Bebe and the tights from M&S.

roseum · 09/12/2011 21:51

Should have said - the braces are to hold up pre-pregnancy trousers, that I wear zip undone with a long, wide scarf/ pashmina-type thing tied over the top.

smileitssunny · 09/12/2011 23:09

Oh honey I've got to tell you it only gets worse with breast feeding tops...

tabbyH · 09/12/2011 23:39

Wait until after... Normal trousers won't fit either! I have one pair of jeans, 2 sizes bigger than 'normal' which are constantly falling down, even with a belt. I've worn my maternity combats out. I mostly wear frugi dresses with leggings at the minute. Even in this snow Smile

I love some of my bfing tops. Blooming marvellous were the best. The have been resurrected at mothercare but I haven't bought any of theirs since they were taken over. H&M do some good ones. Frugi are fab but a bit pricey.

MiauMau · 09/12/2011 23:39

Must say that I'm actually quite happy with my choice of pregnancy clothes. M&P trousers come in short sizes (great for short asses like me) and have these nifty little elastics inside at the back that you can adjust throughout pregnancy. But, I understand when it goes wrong it goes completely wrong and my first maternity trousers that I bought at Dorothy Perkins prove, only managed to wear them for a month as they were really uncomfortable, it was like the stitches where in the all the wrong places!
Saying that I must really rant about party wear and coats, they're so freaking hard to find!!
