Positioning of the baby...

I had a midwife appointment earlier this week (I am 32 weeks today) and saw a different midwife for the first time. She said the baby seems to be lying diagonally, his head bottom left and feet top right. It feels to me that he is lying pretty much straight across my stomach from left to right.

I was just wondering if this was normal and when he should hopefully straighten out as the midwife didn't really say anything else about it just that she struggled to find the heartbeat as he was lying awkwardly (she did find a healthy strong heartbeat though eventually).

I'm 30 weeks. At my 25 week appointment it was transverse. Head in one hip feet in the other. At my 28 week appointment it was on the diagonal. Head in me hip and feet at the bottom of me ribs. Midwife did move it Blush but it just buried back down again by the end of the day. She said wasn't concerned as it will carry on to move and hopefully spin the right way and there was still bags of time for it to do this

Oh here the day it was on the diagonal she struggled to get the heartbeat as it was on or close to a major artery. She picked it up but had to really concentrate cos due to that she was picking mine up more and that was drowning out the sound of the babies

So far Ive had head down at 27 week scan, transverse at 32, and head down since then. I often feel him turning ect and moving into different positions. :)

Oh thanks ladies that puts my mind at ease a bit then. It's silly but you don't think to ask the midwife questions at the time and then start to panic on the way home.

Hello, my baby is lieing diagonal (oblique) too. Can feel it's all on one side. I am 34 weeks and will need to be checked for the position at 36 weeks. My last baby was transverse. Really hope this one shifts!

beckymcfc · 09/12/2011 13:21

Oblique, thats the word..I couldn't think of it. Hope your baby turns for you Flossie, hope mine does too.

I had this with my first at this stage. By 36 weeks onwards she had turned and was fine.

DC3 on the other hand was in perfect position till I was over 40 weeks and then decided to lie sideways! Been awkward ever since.

Mine is still doing big somersaults at 32 weeks - is all over the place Grin

Feet move all day from side to the top and back again. Goodness knows when it will settle down Hmm

Am 33 weeks and at check yesterday was told baby lying across, having been head down last week. Have added this to my long things to worry about list!

has anyone else checked out the babyspinning website and want to try the exercises there (for a transverse baby)? I am tempted to give it a go when DH comes back from work tonight.....

Another diagonal baby here. Head in left hip, feet in liver...we're not 100% sure whether she's left or right faceing, but as of thismorning I felt what I think might be a botty on the left, after a VERY uncomfy night of wiggles Grin.

Still plenty of room for manouver at 32wks, my MWs told me they're not even going to think about anything much until 36wks as I'm low risk. Also, oblique presentations often just 'engage' quickly from there, just feel out for them switching to full transverse....but again, still plenty of time for turning either way. The Spinning Babies website's had lots of recommendations on here and has been mentioned IRL by many Mum to me!

Swimming, sitting on a birthing ball, sitting backwards on chairs (so you're slightly leaning forawrds) and doing kegles will all encourage baby to present right, if you can bear the thought of it.
