Inguinal hernias

Anyone else develop inguinal hernias when pg? I did last time; they disappeared after baby no 2 was born. Got them at 32 weeks and blamed toilet training my then 22mth old (lots lifting onto high toilet seats etc). Am only 23 weeks (nearly) and think they've already apeared along with the awful vulval varicose veins too . Curious as to whether I'm the only one who's had this experience.....Have gained a stone and Bump is rather large...

I got an inguinal hernia at c.20weeks with DS1 (first baby). Panicked wildly about it but all was fine and gave birth 'naturally' (induction but no c-section). DS1 was a whopping 9lbs 10oz which might explain it. Seemed to go away quite quickly after the birth...to the naked eye at least. Saw consultant who said it was still there - in that he could feel the hole but no need to operate.
Had DD in February this year - inguinal hernia appeared again pretty quickly and a lot bigger - sort of permanent bulge in my right groin. 9lb 13oz baby (gulp). Not too painful and nothing to worry about. Again, seemed to go down after the birth.
Saw the consultant who spotted that I had got an umbilical hernia this time round too! Had them both operated on in September and was glad I did. Even though the inguinal one appeared to have disappeared post birth, apparently there was a lot of internal bruising and inflamation. All hunkeydorey now.
Oh - and I got the varicose veins too at about your stage in my second pregnancy only.

The glamour eh?!

I'm 32 weeks and I developed a hernia pretty much as soon as my bump started to show, so around 18 weeks. Its quite painful and you can see the lump above my bellybutton. Not sure what it is, saw my Midwife, GP and a doctor at the hospital who have all said its nothing to worry about and will operate after birth. Painful doesn't even come close. Haven't got a clue how I got it as I haven't done any heavy lifting or anything.

Sounds like Becky is describing an umbilical rather than an inguinal hernia?
Anyway, yes, I get them when pg and last time it went away after birth so I am hoping this one will do the same. It is covered in varicose veins too- what a bulging horrible mess, especially when the bump sits on it. I can't wait to give birth! I am not sure weight has much to do with it unless you're huge, but mine is definitely worse if I am on my feet all day....
Pregnancy- the glamour, eh?!
