I had a ventouse and was cut. They gave me a local anaesthetic for the ventouse and cutting, which meant that i also had pain relief for stitching up the cut. The ventouse and cutting was only at the very end, after 2 hours of pushing. I don't think it is absolutely inevitable you will be cut with a ventouse, but I think it is quite likely.

Did'nt have a ventouse delivery put had the injection to deliver placenta and had no problems with it. Didnt have to be cut but had a bad tear, would of been beter to be cut i think. I had no pain relief through out my labour, will be having pain relief this time as the pain of tearing and having stitches was unbairable. I hav'nt wrote a birthing plan yet but planning to do it soon(due in 10 weeks)

On the placenta delivery, I've delivered it four times naturally and to be honest I didn't know there was any other way. In my experience it was an absolute piece of cake after the birth is over. You're wide open anyway, it just flops out. (Mine has taken anything between 20 mins and 1 hour 20 mins - the mws got s little twitchy but there was no need).

The womb will contract anyway. Suckiling the baby as soon as possible, together with skin to skin contact, helps this to happen. If you can't get baby to suckle straight away, twiddle your nipples.

All the best with it tweeni.

Not sure if i want an epidural, would love to have one but midwife said it depends if i get to the hospital in time. If not then i would like to have a water birth. Used a tens last time and it did'nt have any affect, hate gass and air (made me feel sick so did'nt use it). fingers crossed (or legs crossed) i get there in time for an epidural.

I thought that you didn't necessarily have to be cut when having a ventouse but do when having a forceps delivery - the main reason for not having a forceps delivery - but I ended up having one anyway.

I had the injection thingy but I know it is supposed to be beneficial to have a natural delivery and not cut the cord straight away until the cord has stopped pulsating.

I had ventouse when DS heart rate dropped as I was full dilated. They said I needed to be cut but I was in to much of a hurry and pushed before they could cut me and I tore instead.

Re placenta I had read about it, but at the time was given an option they just did it without asking me and at the time I didn't realise what was happening as it had all been panic stations in the last stage to get the baby out.

I used gas and air which apparently turned me into a comedian ! Worked fine until last hour when they gave me an epidural as they thought I might have to have an emerg. c-section. As I was induced which is painful I am hoping to manage on just gas & air this time!

Just one think I didn't make a birth plan last time as DS was my first and I had no idea what the pain would be like and how I would cope. Your prob. best leaving it open and seeing how you go as thinks can change very quickly.

yeh i heard it can reduce bleeding but also if the uterus clamps down to hard then it has to be removed manually.
