Okay, I appreciate this might sound like a weird thing to do but...

One of the most relaxing things I find to do is to lie flat in the bath with no water in it, and have the shower run on me from normal shower height. Usually the water lands on my belly/ chest, and I have it quite hot, and I find it really relaxing. It's not a power shower, but its not bad. And I like to have the water hot enough so that my skin ends up a bit pink, like a lobster Wink

However, I'm about 8-9 weeks pregnant. How does the hot water effect things? And is the water landing on my belly not a good idea?

Ha, thanks.

I appreciate it sounds weird, I don't know how else to describe it!!

Reckon you should be ok, a shower isn't that likely to do any harm. Even a power shower.

whenskiesaregrey · 06/12/2011 22:50

Thanks Beamur. I'm guessing any pressure from the water would be absorbed by my fat/ skin etc, but was concerned as the water falls about 5ft-ish.

Babies are pretty well protected in there, if it doesn't hurt you, chances are it won't hurt your baby either.

They do advise against hot tubs though, and jacuzzis...and this is a bit similar...or that may be the overall temp heating up your body temp?

whenskiesaregrey · 06/12/2011 22:55

I thought that was maybe the bacteria in them? Or could be the temp.

I'd have thought hot tubs and jacuzzis might also be a risk from shared use and bacteria too.

ExpectantMumofLilo · 07/12/2011 16:37

My MW suggested that long exposure to heat where your body temp is affected is the reason for the advice against jacuzzis and saunas. It sounds like you will be fine as long as you don't do it for really long periods of time but if in doubt ask your MW!

AlpinePony · 07/12/2011 16:46

Are you having a fucking laugh?

Do you seriously think that water falling 5' is going to harm your baby? What in all the name that is holy are you going to do if it rains?

whenskiesaregrey · 07/12/2011 17:27

Hmm I know that rain wouldn't harm you.

The water is with a bit more pressure than rain I assume. And it does create dimbles in my skin. And the water is focused on one place.

ExpectantMumofLilo - the temp was one of my main concerns, I do like a hot shower!

Aww whenskies I remember you from the April club, so pleased to see you back on here congratulations! (I hope thats not a hideously insensitive thing to say)

Iirc the advice wrt hot baths/showers is to not raise your core body temp too much so I think as long as you're not in there too long it should be fine. I'm not a mw though so may be completely wrong!

whenskiesaregrey · 07/12/2011 18:53

Hi catlover!! No not insentitive at all, thanks for your help!!

I see you must all be having your 20 week scans now, how exciting Grin
