Petrified about telling my bosses tomorrow

I have my 12 week scan tomorrow and if all goes well I am going to tell my bosses that I am pregnant straight after as they only work Mon -Wed so if I don't tell them tomorrow they won't know before our Christmas party on Friday when it will be very obvious as they have made sure no one has to drive so everyone can drink. Plus I used to be a major meat eater and now virtually vegetarian as I can't stand the taste of meat so it's going to be blatantly obvious so prefer to tell them properly before.
However I don't think it will go down well with them particularly as they have just paid out £500 for my flight to the Caribbean. (I work for a yacht charter company and part of my contract is I get a yacht somewhere in the world free of charge each year for a week-the boat is free of charge so my company haven't paid for that part it is just the flight) I did book my trip before I was pregnant but literally only days. We have been ttc for nearly 2 years so we just booked things as normal as was impossible to plan. I am definitely going as still a right to training plus dh and my parents have paid for flights so they could come too. I will be 20 weeks so good time in my pregnancy too.
I am wetting myself about telling them also what is the normal procedure? Do I just go up to them (they are on separate floor to the rest of the staff) and just to say just wanted to let you know I am pregnant. Anything else I should say do?
Been having nightmare about it for last few nights so looking forward to it being done!

I was petrified about telling my boss too, but actually he was totally fine. Obviously it's never the news an employer wants to hear, but if they are decent human beings they will be pleased for you personally. You have lots of rights as a pregnant person and shouldn't be discriminated against for anything like training or work perks and your employer will know this so again, if they are decent enough and know their job it probably shouldn't be an issue about your Caribbean trip (lucky you I am green with envy!). Basically I made it into a much bigger deal than it was on my head and when I just came out with it and told him, everything was fine. Good luck!

i feel for you. I'm at 12 weeks, scan was due next week but been brought forward as i'm having issues, now the idea of my boss having a strop is less of a concern. however, should it work out i'll be telling them next week and i was planning on emphasing that i enjoy my job and hope to be there long term, after all a few months out if you're working there for years and years isn't too much and as an employer i think there are benefits to having a stable workforce which you will be with family Smile hope that's some help! good luck!!!

I wouldn't just walk up to them - can you book a quick 10 min chat in their diaries?

Apart from that, don't sweat it. Its terrible in this day and age that we should feel terrible for having the temerity to have a child, but its a fact of life, not any indication of your dedication to your job. Your bosses should be fine with it!

I'm with lukewarm - I'm appalled that you should be in a position of feeling so frightened to tell your employers something so entirely normal! Do you not feel your company is supportive of pregnant women and working mothers - have you seen other women get bad responses from them previously? As someone said up the thread, remember you have a lot of rights. Book yourself a short slot with the bosses for greater ease and privacy of communication, and tell them calmly. Congratulations on your loned-for pregnancy and stop feeling so apologetic about it!
