Hi all,

I am around 5 wks PG and I am soooo tired to the point it is ridiculous. Today got up at 7.45am read some of my book at noon and fell alseep for an hour, got up had a shower lay down for ten mins I was freezing thought snuggle in for ten mins then get cracking eh no zonked for 2 hours! Sitting yawning my head off, I confess I am not normally mrs major energetic but this is a whole new laziness.
I am meant to be packing to move house and I can't be bothered doing anything don't have a moving in date yet hoping that causes some action! Also not working just now so not much to occupy my time, just wondered if I am being a seriously lazy mare or is this chronic tiredness similar to anyone else? Yawn xx

Totally normal Smile I'm 13 weeks now and still feel like I could fall asleep at the drop of a hat.

Congrats on your pregnancy x

kdiddy · 06/12/2011 18:16

This was me! I did snap out of it by about 14 weeks, but now that I'm 34+1 it's back with a vengeance ... make the most of any bursts of energy you may get!

brandysoakedbitch · 06/12/2011 18:18

Take advantage if this is your first as you will never have the opportunity to indulge in resting again - you are as tired with the next ones you can just do nothing about it

It does pass

blackoutthexmaslights · 06/12/2011 18:18

that was also me, oh how i miss my 3+ hours afternoon nap Smile

Oeisha · 06/12/2011 18:19

I could have slept about 16h a day at your stage. It will slowly get better...very slowly for me...where as some women bouce a bit at 10wks (placenta takes over some of the work) and again in 2nd trimester. Now 33+6 and needing an afternoon nap again.

Just try and do some exercise throughout the day (even a walk round the block, I swam at leat once a week, plus being on my feet at work). Helps avoid restless-leg and will help you sleep deeper and more satisfyingly.

nickelbabe · 06/12/2011 19:04

oh, yes, it's very, very normal!
Grin

i spent time on the floor of my shop (head propped up on pillows) quite regularly in the first few weeks.
problem is, then, of course, everyone thinks you're being a right lazy sod cos they can't see what's wrong!

don't forget, your body is going throuhg some massive stuff, so it's putting all your energy into it!

IcanandIwill · 06/12/2011 19:10

It's overwhelming. I'm 16 weeks and still find I'm totally exhausted all the time. I second what was said earlier about making the most of any energy bursts you do get, it's the only time I get anything done.

MrsDobalina · 06/12/2011 19:14

Take heart, I found pregnancy much more exhausting than having babies to look after. Despite the fact DC2 is still keeping me up after a year I actually still think its better than that utter draining exhaustion of pregnancy! Congrats btw Smile

Hotpotpie · 06/12/2011 19:15

Thats what has plagued me from the start lol, I fell asleep in work twice which was a touch embarrassing, I got to 18 weeks and felt much better though have so far had two energetic weeks and long may it last!!

slimyak · 06/12/2011 19:17

Yes normal, I always felt the tiredness of pregnancy felt a bit like being drugged, especially the early weeks. Where as the tiredness of being mum to a 10 month old rubbish sleeper and a 4 year old very early riser, just feels knackering. But they're cute so I can forgive them, I'll sleep when they're teenagers Xmas Grin

HeidiHole · 06/12/2011 19:21

Totally normal. I'm 17 weeks and was only in the 2nd trimester I was actually awake longer than 2 hours at a time :)

blueeyedmonster · 06/12/2011 20:35

Yep normal. Make use of this being your first. Nearly falling asleep with a 3yo prodding your eye to see if you are joking is not fun!! It's back now I am 33+6!

sleeplessinderbyshire · 06/12/2011 20:38

oh god this is so familiar. I am 9 weeks with no 2. Feel exhausted. Missed DD's swimming lesson in favour of us both napping this afternoon. Tempted to lock office door and lie down and sleep at lunch every day. It is hell. apparently it gets better, I bloody hope so as another 31 weeks or this will kill me

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 06/12/2011 20:41

Totally normal. It is how a knew I needed to do a test when I got pregnant with DS2 - the complete exhaustion is unmistakable!

It does get better, honestly, but go with it and sleep when you need to :)

mumzy · 06/12/2011 22:38

It's totally normal. I use to sleep 10 hours at night the need a3 hour nap in the afternoon as well as well as dropping off at various times in the evening too. Its your body's way of ensuring you are conserving enough energy for baby making needs, as a result you shouldn't need to eat any more calories until the 3 rd trimester and then it's only an extra 200 kcals/ day
HTH

msbossy · 06/12/2011 22:51

mumzy that'll be why I ate an extra 2000 a day with dd2; dd1 deprived me of daytime naps :-)

OP - I've recently discovered what it feels like to go 8 months without more than 4 hours undisturbed sleep (bar a handful of nights). IIRC being 8 weeks pregnant (my low point) is about the same, if not worse. YADNBLazy.

joosiewoosie · 08/12/2011 09:18

Was really pleased to find this thread! I've taken the day off today in favour of my bed and some general, non-intensive jobs at home.
I'm a supply teacher, so had a bit of a personal dilemma and hormonal moment in making the choice today, as we never know when we may or may not get work. Luckily, I've been working 4 or 5 days a week this term, so i figured I need to be nice to myself and bubsy today!
I felt like such a lazy mare when turning down a days work yesterday! The agency don't know yet that I'm 9 weeks pg. I prob won't tell them til 22 wks cos i don't want the work to dry up!
I'm chilling in bed after a great nights sleep and will get up in a bit, write Xmas cards and do some filing....boring jobs that have gotta be done when awake! May have a nap after lunch, just because I can. My hubs is being brill, and is hopeful this will pass, as I am!

mzundastood · 08/12/2011 09:44

Hi Joosie
Thank sounds like bliss! You relax and enjoy. My friend is also a supply nursery nurse and hates turning down a days work. You however are pregnant congradulations! Have a guilt free restful day, I can't wait to be able to do that. Still living with my ex who thinks I am just lazy being so tired all the time, lol as soon as I move I am going to have a PJ day eat, sleep, read, eat, sleep, only exercise I will get that day is going to the loo!
Have a great day and sure we will all pass this stage and be blooming balls of energy. xxxx

Thanks Mz!
Christmas cards written already (I'm doing well) but am going at my own pace :) Am craving a baker's sausage roll (you know, the crusty pastry ones) so I might pop out and satisfy my craving, while posting the cards (naughty, but nice!Xmas Wink)
I hope that your move happens quickly and you can get away from your negative ex soon. Keep talking yourself up, just like you did to me this morning. I hope your tiredness eases soon too, and you can do everything you want without feeling totally whacked out!
How far gone are you? I've heard that it this tiredness can ease a bit by 16 weeks, although I shouldn't really complain as I've been quite lucky as far as sickness goes!
Best wishes to you and all pg zombies! xxx

mzundastood · 08/12/2011 16:29

You go girl! Oh yuuummmmy get me one well get me two! I love them hot from Greggs bakery drool I want mato ketchup lol. God now I am going to have to eat something I live 20 miles away from nearest hot sausage roll.

I am 6wks so a long way to go, can not complain about pg its not the problem just my ex and his family. By the time santa comes I will be moved and ready to toast a new start, probably lying on the floor sobbing to love song is more like it. Have you seen that bit in Bridget Jones that be me. My bestest bud has invited me and my son for xmas day, bless she feeling sorry for me. Think we are going to spend it in pjs playing with her kids and knicking their selection boxes (such a child at heart).

Sounds just perfect:) I did have a restful day in the end...slept for 2 hours this afternoon. Had a manic eve tho and bin sick for only 2nd time in pg. Have a chocolate for me! Xxx

lollystix · 08/12/2011 21:03

Congratulations - totally normal. Remember feeling that way with ds1. Didn't even notice I was pregnant with ds4 till 15 weeks and the common question was 'didn't u notice feeling tired?' 'er no-I have kids - I perpetually feel this wayGrin'

Anyway enjoy your first pregnancy - my advice is to put your feet up and totally indulge yourself as you won't get the opportunity again.

PoppySeed34 · 08/12/2011 21:16

I think i must be around a similar time to you (ish), and i can honestly say I've never felt so tired before ever. The fatigue is definitely extreme! I thought it was just because i was recovering from a cold, and need to sleep more, but turns out it's a bit more than that...!

Hope your move goes ok, sounds like a nice xmas day planned anyway :) x

mzundastood · 09/12/2011 08:10

congrads poppy! Not a cold a wee bambino lol It is not even like tiredness is it? Saying I feel tired doesnt cut it more like I am drained, heavy eyes and all you can think about is wanting to sleep and more sleep.
Let me know how you go, be nice to share along the way with someone around same wks pg.
