I had my last cigarette last night at 9pm and I'm really relieved to have stopped. I've tried a few times in this pregnancy and I've slipped up. On the positive side, I am a very light smoker (3-4 daily) I'm still only 10 weeks and I am determined this time.

So why does it feel like the whole world is against me today? Baby has cried half the night and the older children keep squabbling. Anyone care to share similar experiences?

Please don't flame me - I'm just happy to have stopped.

Well done! I gave up at the beginning of this pregnancy, and found it so much easier after the first week or so. I used patches for the first few days to take the edge off and they really helped.

I'm 17 weeks now and it's really fine, it's nice to have the 'in control' feeling and to feel that I'm doing the very best for my baby. Whenever I have a wobble I try to visualise the tiny baby inside me and the guilt from that puts me right off Xmas Grin

Thanks Tricky, it's so hard coping with the first few days but you are so right about the 'in control' feeling. I just wish I could hibernate for a few days, but there is no chance.
I will try visualisation Smile

OK, I'm feeling quite pleased with myself. 38 hours and 49 minutes since last cigarette. I still feel physically awful and I can't think straight so DH has sent me upstairs to rest. At least it's quiet up here...Smile

Congratulations!!! Hang on in there ;)

Well done! Hang on in there, I'm sure it will get better, and that's so nice of your DH as well :) Have you got a page turning book you could read to keep your mind busy etc?

RockChick1984 · 04/12/2011 21:10

Congratulations!! First 3 days were hardest for me, after that it started slowly gettin easier. I found sucking sweets each time I wanted a cigarette helped, as did not thinking about long term, just making the decision each time I would normally have had a cig thinking "I won't have this 1, but maybe I'll have the next 1" as I'm not too good with long term planning!

Well done! I gave up smoking a few years ago, it was incredibly hard. I still have the odd day where I'm tempted to have one. But one means buying a pack, and that means... Well, you know. Sugar free lollies helped me. Kept my hands occupied and sometimes u just need to get past the moment where you are craving one, so distract yourself for 20 minutes and you will often find the craving has gone.
Keep it up! you're doing brilliantly :)

thejoanwilder · 05/12/2011 13:16

Ok, that's totally what RockChick said. Next time I will read the responses first...

Well done! Keep up the good work! I gave up while TTC and it is never easy.

Agree that distracting yourself until the moment is past is a good one, try phoning someone up for a quick chat, cleaning your teeth or painting your nails when you feel the urge (kids permitting of course)!

i gave up reading the allan carr book have to say was very easy after trying several times i the past with no success. tried hypnotism, nrt, cold turkey.
i had started reading before i found out i was pregnant so rushed it threw and no problem was pretty amazed.
keep up the great work and maybe give it a read and it will help with the cravings etc, just keep telling yourself you are a non-smoker now.

Hi everyone. It's been almost 72 hours now and I must admit I feel really rough, but very pleased that it's done now - I just have to stick with it. I have a copy of Allen Carr's book, I will have an early night soon and flick through it.

Thanks for all your support everyone. I only smoked around 5 cigarettes a day and I am surprised that they have been as difficult to stop as 20. I hope this thread gives someone else confidence. I have approached this quit from the perspective of an illness and warned DH in advance that I would need extra support and sleep. I think it will be a few days before I feel normal again, but it's all so worth it Xmas Smile
