ectopic pregnancy?

Is anyone being monitored for suspected ectopic pregnancy? I am now about to have my 3rd set of blood tests to check hormone levels (as scan showed empty uterus at 5 or 6 weeks of pregnancy)and I wondered if anyone has more information on the topic. HCG hadn't gone up much 48 hours after first bloods. Has this happened to anyone else who has then gone on to have a successful pregnancy? Also, does laparoscopy carry risk of m/c?

Sorry to hear what's happened, expecting. Hope you get an answer one way or the other soon. FWIW (for what it's worth) as sad as I was to lose the two babies, both times it dragged on over 3 weeks, and in the end I felt a sense of relief that I knew I wasn't pg and could draw a line under it and start trying again.

You'll get loads of support here, so stick around and let us know what happens.

Cheers surfermum, yes I agree that closure helps. We want to try again (which is mad as this one was unplanned!). 3 weeks can seem like 3 months when you're in limbo. I'm hoping I will have this closure b4 my birthday next week so I can get p**d! Did u get/are you pregnant again?

sorry for the late reply to your question only just logged back on.

No I haven't had another, but that is through choice, I already have a dd and ds. I was told that there would be no reason why I couldn't though.

The pain was sharp stomach pains that made me think I wanted the loo, I thought at first I had bad wind. It then progressed to a pain that felt like I was sitting on a knife, constant and sharp, each time I went to the loo I felt faint - I am not sure if I had ruptured at this point or not, when I went for my scan I already had, but at what point I don't know. I then started to get pain in my right shoulder (severe) the shoulder opposite the ruptured tube (left) this pain indicates internal bleeding and therefore the 'emergency' stage, as soon as I felt this pain I was rushed in for surgery.

HTH and hasn't frightened you too much, I know if somebody had told me what to expect before hand I would have gone to A&E or EPU earlier, rather than sitting round dismissing it as wind, which is what I did.

I hope you are OK

You are so right, 3 weeks feeling like 3 months. I just didn't know what to do with myself - but then I hadn't discovered mumsnet at that point! I had the same thought as you after my first one - it was just before my 40th birthday and I thought "well at least I can get slaughtered on my birthday!". Ever the optimist me!

Yes, I did get pg again, but lost that one too, tried again and it was third time lucky. I have a little girl who is 2.7 now.

golds, your experience sounds awful. I feel I have had a lucky escape by comparison. My hcg levels are dropping rapidly now so I have the green light for alcohol, swimming and sex (with protection)and probably in that order (wink). Looking forward to getting strong & healthy again before ttc. It's weird but I really do feel ok. It must be thanks to this site and conversing with mums who have been through the same experiences. Thank you xxx
ps Surfermum sorry to hear you m/c again after but v glad next was fine.

Sorry to hear that, expecting. Be kind to yourself right now and expect all sorts of emotions. You might find that you want to talk about it loads - I did - but I also found that people who I tried to talk to about it felt awkward. So we're here if you want to offload.
Pounding a few lengths might help too! Do you swim a lot?

Not a fast swimmer by any means but like to do about 30 lengths 3 x week. Soo relaxing. My best mate had a missed miscarriage at 13 wks and actually had labour pains which is bloody awful. Talking 2 her makes me feel better. She is now 20 wks pg & am sad our babes will no longer be close 2getha.

I went and had a proper swim for the first time in ages last week. Dd is at pre-school now so I have 2 afternoons free. It was very relaxing, a nice quiet pool, everyone swimming lengths, and I surprised myself and swam 1000m. Mind you I could hardly walk the next day! I'm aiming at 1200m this week.

expecting · 11/01/2006 13:19

Good luck & hope you manage to keep it going. I drank a bottle of wine last nite so swimming wasn't an option as I would've sunk!
