Cervical ectropion/erosion, anyone help?

Am 7+1 today, had small bits of pink blood on Tuesday and took myself off to the EPU, they examined me and diagnosed ectropion and said it was nothing to worry about, was scanned on Weds to make sure and all looked perfect.
Am very reassured by all of this obviously but I am still bleeding, the blood is only there when I wipe so not a huge amount, but there is more of it and it's getting gradually redder instead of pink.
Has anyone been through this, do the changes mean I need to go back to the hospital or is it still normal? I am due to see midwife for booking in on Weds and am wondering if I should just wait and check with her. Am all unsure about what to do!

Hi.

I'm 26+4 and was in hospital last week and was diagnosed with this and placenta previa. I have not bled for a week now, and it lasted about 3-4 days so I would say ring your midwife/community clinic just to check, there is no thing as being overly cautious when it comes to bleeding when pregnant. If anything, it will give you peace of mind. Other than that, phone the hospital and ask for the maternity/ante-natal ward and describe your symptoms, they can assess whether they want you to come in or not I was told.

Try not to worry (I know how hard that it!) but definitely get it checked. Good luck :)

I do have cervical ectropian that was diagnosed pre-pregnancy, and I had something very similar when I was about 5-6 weeks pg. It started off pink, then brown and then bright red. It was only ever a small amount when I wiped or a bit on underwear. It still scared me half to death! In my case it settled down and stopped after week 8, and the OB couldn't explain why.

I'd pop back to the EPU again if I were you and get reviewed if it seems to be increasing a bit. It's probably nothing, but the worry is the worst thing and it would be better to go today than leave it and then go at the weekend when they might be short on staff (or closed). If they can examine you again and do another scan, it'll reassure you that it's still the ectropian and you can relax.

I have one friend who had bleeding throughout all three of her pregnancies due to ectropian - it wasn't nice but once she knew for sure what it was she didn't worry. All her kids were born full term, gorgeous and healthy.

Congratulations and all the best of luck!

I had a cervical erosion. I wasn't pregnant though so less scary for me. Don't know if anyone explained what an erosion is but here's a good explanation:

"An ectropion or ?erosion? is a normal occurrence when the delicate glandular (columnar) cells are exposed on the surface of the cervix. This change of shape in the cervix is normal whenever there is an increased amount of oestrogen hormone eg adolescence, pregnancy or if you are on the oral contraceptive pill. It only needs treatment if there is troublesome discharge or bleeding."

Basically your cervix is having a sulky pout Grin

You can have it cauterised which isn't the nicest of treatments but is quick and simple. Not 100% sure about having it when PG but can see why you couldn't if it's bothering you.

Sorry, I meant I can't see why you couldn't have it done if it's bothering you.
