Beginnings of labour? Should I feel this bulge down below?!

My due date is today. Already had a ds (20mo). Woke up with chronic back ache and cramps at the top of the thighs, chilled out today with my TENS machine (having a home birth so not much else to do). The pain has subsided to be a bit dull, but I am suddenly acutely aware of a bulge in my fanjo. It feels as though there is a grapefruit pressing against it from the other side...could this be the head and is it normal to feel this? Or could it be my waters?

Ds was an easy labour (woke up 10 cms gone and literally began to push whole ordeal was over in a few hours) so I "missed" the beginnings of labour and have no idea what I should be expecting. I know not to bother my midwife to come out until I have contractions/a show (have rung to let her know I'm feeling a bit weird though).

Is it normal?

Wow, what a thread. Has anyone checked with OP that there's nothing pulsating in her fanjo? Really hope she's birthing gently and easily with midwife and OH Grin.

It was me, I'm due Saturday - not sure I can give birth on command though but I'm having a homebirth too, so could do a live thread (poss with DH's help, as I'm going to attempt hypnobirthing) Grin

Two of my four were born in a cawl without a show.
She really needs someone there - I've only scanned this thread quickly in case I missed anything - has she got company?

Good luck Tinsel Grin

lia66 · 01/12/2011 22:05

For what it's worth, I was at a bba (born before arrival, (of mw) )earlier in the year and the mw who arrived later told us, the babies that arrive like this are very unlikely to have problems as nature is birthing them as intended. It's the long drawn out ones that are more tricky.

so if baby arrived whilst op was alone, chances are it arrived safely and easily.

VivaLeBeaver · 01/12/2011 22:05

I'm a midwife. I'm telling you to please, p,ease call one now. If you woke up at 10cm last time you could easily get to 10cm this time without noticing anything. Some women just labour with a bit of back ache. 2nd babies can take two pushes and they're out. Get someone with you.
